Introduction

Actually, I prefer students in South Jersey. My preferred travel radius is about 15-25 miles from Haddonfield, NJ. Those students can have lessons at their home during my available time frame. But keep in mind that I can't teach on weekends and holidays. Now, a little about me. I listen to what the student wants to learn about, then I tailor my lessons for them to achieve their goals. Sometimes my lessons are extremely elementary. That's okay because I can always accelerate them to the speed that the student wants. The student has to have some prerequisites like knowing general math (fractions), concepts, interest in the subject, and some creativity in musical subjects. Then I can really help them to excel in those arenas. I've always liked the idea to help someone else out when they needed it. My favorite subject is keyboard, I actually have a mini keyboard, but other subjects are interesting as well. I actually played lead guitar in the 70s, and I have a Squier guitar, and I enhanced that skill by taking extra lessons either by pro teachers or through the Internet like YouTube, MusicNotes, and etc. Through sheet-music analysis, I train the student to understand musical concepts and excel in them. I gain great satisfaction from this endeavor.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I tailor my rates to what the customer wants to have. Even though I have a standard rate, that can change at the customer's request.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I show them my course outline, then I start lessons right away. The student learns in an active environment.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I've had formal guitar lessons and I enhanced my skills through use of the Internet in various topics.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I thought that helping others would be a good idea. I took a substitute-teaching course, and found that it would be a good idea to teach others with the skills I have had. Some skills were technical but others were artistic. Finding a happy medium gave me great satisfaction as I would begin teaching others.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I've tutored general math, prealgebra, algebra, and other math topics; I've provided computer tech support, taught application languages like MySQL, Powerbuilder, C, C++, and Java programming; I've taught music theory for the gradual advancement of guitar lessons and piano lessons; and I've had guitar training as well as a balanced music background.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
This is weird, but I was interested in how the IBM 1401 computer processed data. I worked on a Java program using Netbeans in order to provide a simulated look at how the 1401 ran a storage program by using its 7 registers, locating word-mark bits, then fetching and executing instructions. In about 2 weeks I had a model running.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
If you wanted to learn more about that computer that you have, and maybe you were confused about how to get that Excel spreadsheet to work the way that you wanted it, and just maybe you wanted to find out how that database could be connected for your computer, then I could be of service. Did you have a son or daughter that's having a hard time with math, maybe algebra? I can help. You might want to learn music theory alone or basic piano or guitar; I'm the one to turn to.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Some minor things the customer should have would be having their own equipment. If this were a guitar or keyboard subject, I would expect the student to have his own instrument, pick, electric tuner, music stand, some sheet music, and minor notes about what to do. Scholastic subjects require the ongoing course work like books and notes, computer, handheld device, or laptop device. These are probably everyday items now.
