Welcome to PVD Guitar! My name is Nick Cooper, and I have been an avid musician and teacher for over 12 years. I started PVD Guitar in 2016 out of a desire to offer a fun and engaging lesson experience for students of all skill levels. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My private lesson rates are: $40 - 30 min. $55 - 45 min. $70 - 60 min. I do offer discounts for students that book weekly recurring spots: $35 - 30 min. $45 - 45 min. $55 - 60 min. Travel pricing varies by availability and distance travelled.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I always start by evaluating a new student's previous playing experience, ability level, and personal goals. From there, I tailor the lessons to help them move steadily towards their goals and address any bigger issues that may be holding them back.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have over 15 years of experience as a full-time guitar instructor working with students of all ages, ability levels, interests, and goals. I graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2008 with a B.A. in Jazz Studies for guitar and the URI Award for Musical Excellence.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I started teaching in 2006 while working on my music degree. Since graduating, I been teaching individual and ensemble lessons full-time, and started my own business in 2016.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I work with students of all ages and ability levels, but some things I teach often include: - Helping beginners learn strumming and the basic chords so they can play their favorite songs. - Working with more experienced players to breakthrough after getting "stuck" or "plateauing". - Preparing students for school jazz band. (Middle or High School) - Developing fingerpicking skills with those that already have the basic chords down. - Arranging songs, and building up a setlist for solo performers or band members.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Look for someone who can provide you with a clear path to improvement, challenging yet manageable goals, and effective practice strategies.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

More than anything, learning to play the guitar, or develop any skill, requires patience and dedication. The biggest thing to think through is whether you'll pick up the guitar consistently. If you do, and stay true to the plan that your teacher has laid out, you will make progress.
