Introduction

I have over 35 years of experience teaching both privately and in schools. I am willing to be flexible with lesson times and days, or structured as the family would like, because I understand that students and families are busy with life and other activities too, just like I am. I enjoy watching how my students grow from year to year through their skills, accomplishments and understanding of music. Plus, I enjoy giving them the tools that will last them for the rest of their lives when I’m no longer their teacher. I like to give students goals throughout the year through preparing for recitals, playing or music theory exams through the ABRSM program, sonatina festivals and other opportunities that might be available in the area where I live.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
First we communicate by email and then we set up a time to meet in person, especially if customers need help with choice of music or if they would like to hear me play.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a degree in Piano Performance, as well as close to 35 years of teaching music, playing for events, accompanying for recitals and concerts. I have a great deal of repertoire which helps to cut down on the cost of customers needing to purchase music for their event.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I especially love playing for weddings. They bring great joy to me as I help couples start their new life together on a perfect note (no pun intended!) I also enjoy seeing the creativity of various weddings and how each wedding ceremony is a personal expression of the couple that are getting married. It's been such a long time since I played for my first wedding and for my first gig. Probably it was thanks to friends that had confidence in my abilities to do a good job. Then it all grew from there.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with couples that are planning a church or outdoor wedding (I own a keyboard that I can use for outdoor events.) I have also played for graduation ceremonies, birthday party events, wedding receptions, accompanied instrumentalists, singers and choirs for recitals and concerts.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently played for a church wedding of a couple that decided to go through with the event as planned. There were only 29 people in the church and it was a very simple wedding. The bridal party did not wear anything too fancy, a very different scenario from weddings that I'm used to playing for.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I encourage customers to meet with the professional in person so that they can get to know them and their style of doing things.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
I think everyone has their own ideas about what they want for their children if they are seeking lessons for them or for themselves as are adults. Customers should also allow professionals to share their ideas of how their child/ren or they should learn, and to give an instructor the time to get to know their child or themselves as a student/customer.
