Introduction

Hi! I am a retired engineer. I got my yoga teacher certification in 2014 and have been teaching ever since. My students enjoy yoga practice that is customized just for them. Are you looking for the health benefits but don't feel comfortable at a yoga studio? Are you curious about yoga but not ready to jump into a big class? With one-on-one instruction, I can work around any limitations you may have as well as focus on your specific requests. Since March of 2020 I have primarily been teaching online. So if you are tired of youtube videos and want to ask questions I can help! I like to see others benefit from yoga practice. I have several students that started with me over 4 years ago. It is heartwarming to see how they have progressed in their practice. I have students that suffer from back issues, shoulder and knee issues as well as students without physical issues. I enjoy creating a practice that is best for the student. I have students that have stressful jobs and we meditate to help alleviate anxiety on and off the mat. I enjoy teaching practices that meet the specific needs of each student. Everyone can practice yoga! Everyone can benefit. We just start with different abilities.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
The price I quote depends on the length of the practice and whether I need to travel to the student. I charge considerably lower than average but I feel strongly that yoga should be accessible for everyone. Most of my students pay for several sessions ahead of time but this is not required.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
When a new student comes to me I will first collect general health information. Once I understand any medical limitations you may have we can talk about your goals and what you expect from your yoga experience. Then I will customize a practice for you. Hopefully we will continue to work together so I can tailor poses and sequences to your needs and abilities. Also, you can share with me your favorite parts of the practice so that your experience gets better and better. This is the beauty of private yoga sessions. As a teacher I don't have to teach to the average student in a group class.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have completed RYT-200 certification which included several hours of teaching with supervision as well as lectures and exams. I am also certified for Prenatal Yoga Instruction. I am registered with Yoga Alliance. Most importantly, as of July 2019 I have taught nearly 700 yoga practices.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I had many aches and pains from years of running and playing sports. After practicing yoga I found that the knee and back pain that I thought was permanent disappeared! After a 30 year career in engineering I wanted to help others that could benefit from yoga practice.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked mostly with inexperienced yogi's of all ages (11-79). I will use props, such as blocks and straps, to assist with the poses if needed. I can also teach chair yoga for those that cannot or prefer not to get on the floor.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
This question does not make sense in the context of yoga practice. I do have 3 students who have been with me for over 3 years (July 2019). They have grown stronger, more flexible and are continuing to benefit from our practices. It is fulfilling for me to see their practice grow. Yoga practice is an ongoing project. There is no completion date.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I recommend that you try a few different teachers so that you experience different styles of yoga. This way you can choose the right teacher and yoga style to meet your needs and personality. I hope that I get to work with you but if not, I hope that you find the teacher that is right for you so that you can enjoy the health benefits of yoga!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
If the customer has specific physical concerns they should ask the professional how they would approach their particular needs. It would also be good to find out how the yoga teacher structures each practice. Do they include warm up, finishing poses, breathing exercises, etc. I do not incorporate chanting, but some teachers do. Find out if the teacher provides mats or props.
