What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I charge $100 per hour and offer discounts for purchasing 5 or 10 session packages in advance. I strongly recommend individual sessions at least 2x per week for struggling learners. In my experience, your child will thrive and look forward to our sessions!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Getting to know each other & chatting it up (text, phone call or video call) all about your child. This is a fun way to start to work together. I graciously offer a consult & assessment at no cost to you.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
-Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education -Advanced Children’s Mindfulness & Yoga Certification -Reading Recovery Certification -Over 20 years of service to children in a first grade public school inclusive classroom

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I fell in love with teaching when I was in college. I could talk to my sister for hours about teaching strategies & ideas... she was my wonderful one-of-a-kind loving mentor! I started taking yoga when I was a pre-teen thanks to my amazing Aunt Sheila who treated me to a class at the Westfield Yoga Center. I was instantly in love with how yoga helped me cope with confusing emotions I was unable to access or express. Here I am decades later guiding my students in life and in learning.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with children from preschool to teens and everything in between. I work well with all ages and adapt easily to different groups. I just love working with people!

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Recently, I have witnessed major growth while working with one of my students in particular. We began our time together virtually just a couple of months ago. In the beginning, sessions were very structured based on what initial assessments revealed. We would begin with a feelings check in & yoga mini lesson which led to choice of a phonemic awareness game. A musical/dancing brain break was followed by reading or writing opportunities. Over a few week’s time, my student began to seek out making lesson choices and even created their own literacy games! I began to learn more about where the student was truly at within their instructional reading level. Now, I hear my student say “let me take a deep breath first…” before attempting a challenging word. This has been one of the most rewarding moments while working one to one. The power of our mindfulness and yoga practices is shining straight through into literacy tasks. A beautiful and natural progression to witness!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
My advice in hiring a tutor or mindfulness/yoga teacher is that you feel comfortable with the person. Also it is important that you feel open to ask lots of questions with your child's best interest at heart. Once working with a tutor, allow for the process to take shape and observe your child with an intention to notice any differences in behavior/academic wins over time. Celebrate, notice, repeat!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
How to best approach your child. You know your child best and ask the best questions surrounding your child’s learning experiences. I recommend: Taking a moment or even a few to sit quietly by yourself or with your child. Take slow deep belly breaths in and out your nose as you empty your mind as much as possible. This will clear your head and in my experience, allow for some clarity. As you breathe, try and notice where/when you believe your child’s difficulty may have began. This may bring up some strong emotion. I suggest drawing or journaling notes for yourself. From there, ask an important empowering question: What do you believe is the essence of how your child learns best? I suggest sharing this with your tutor and/or classroom teacher. You hold many answers that are key for the professionals helping your child.
