Introduction

Learn to practice yoga at your level of ability and to address your concerns and goals. I have expertise in working with people who have health issues, including injuries, disabilities, or mental health concerns. If you have little to no yoga experience, I can help you develop skillful technique. I can work with you with any of these intentions: -lead you through yoga practice -help you learn to practice yoga on your own, develop a routine -prepare to attend a class, live or recorded, and participate safely and effectively I am skilled with teaching yoga in water, and also via internet video. I am an Occupational Therapist, licensed in MA, with extensive experience using yoga with patients. COVID precautions: If clients are not fully vaccinated, I expect them and myself to wear masks fully covering mouth and nose. I am comfortable with no masks if all present can show evidence of vaccination. When I meet you, I require that you have not had any COVID-related symptoms in previous 24 hours

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
At my home in Roslindale, or by internet video: $80/hr, $110/ 90 min (+10-15 per additional person) Prices in my listing are per hour. May charge more, depending on distance I need to travel, and if we do sessions longer than an hour

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I always start with conversation about what they are looking to get out of yoga and out of private lessons. Discuss physical/mental health issues. I usually structure the yoga practice as a learning process, more than just leading the person through a practice.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
yoga teacher certification from Kripalu Yoga Center. Adaptive Yoga training from Matthew Sanford/Mind-body Solutions. Masters degree in Occupational Therapy from New York University

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
As part of my work in Occupational therapy, I was leading groups on a locked psychiatric treatment facility. I was asked to run an exercise class; I chose to make it a yoga class. With doing this repeatedly, I had great satisfaction seeing how people experienced reduction of their symptoms by practicing yoga. This inspired me to pursue yoga teacher training.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
People with disabilities, injuries, or chronic pain. including those with spinal cord injuries, amputations, strokes, brain injuries, burns. People with mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, addictions. People transitioning out of prison Generally fit and healthy people who are taking care of their health and wellness

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I started and taught a class for people with significant injuries or disabilities. I organized a team of volunteer assistants to help me, allowed participants to get substantial one-on-one attention.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
If you have any injuries or health issues, ask the provider what they know about working with that. Ask about professional and advanced training. When you do first yoga class, note degree to which instructor both allows for limitations, as well as safely encouraging you to challenge yourself.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Consider what your intentions with private yoga instruction, and out of yoga. Do you want to learn a practice to do on your own at home? Is this to prepare you to attend a class? Do you want someone to lead you through a practice, without necessarily practicing independently? Why yoga? What in particular do you want to get out of practicing yoga? Do you need an instructor who will respect your limitations and keep you safe physically and psychologically? Do you need an instructor who will appropriately challenge you? Do you need an instructor who will skillfully do both these things?
