Introduction

Welcome and thank you for reading my profile. Whether it is a Family Law Mediation matter, Estate-Planning (Living Trusts and Wills), , or other matter, I deal with all clients and parties in a very low-key, non-confrontational setting. My goal is always to work together so we can avoid the courthouse . . no stuffy suits . . .just real people working together in a sensible way to deal with their matters. If it's a mediation, both parties come to the "bargaining table" and I help narrow down the issues. In Family Law, we discuss various ways to handle the division of assets, spousal support and anything else that may be of concern. (I do NOT however, handle matters involving domestic violence or child support/custody). This eliminates an expensive and emotionally-charged court battle. If you need Estate planning ( a Living Trust or Will), we discuss your situation and then I will prepare documents that express your wishes to give you peace of mind. I love working with people and being a part of the solution! And it is such a huge compliment to me when past clients refer new clients to me. It shows I've done my job well and that the parties are happy with the outcome. As long as we can get your matter resolved, I've done my job!

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
For mediations or family law matters, my fees are hourly and the total fee charged will vary depending upon the issues that need to be resolved and the willingness of the parties to reach a resolution. For preparation of Wills and Trusts, there is a flat fee that depends on the assets and holdings of the client.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
For mediations, I speak with the parties on the phone to explain the mediation process. Then we all get together so I can put the parties at ease and begin the process of working out their differences. If it is a matter requiring individual representation , I speak with the potential client and make sure that I will be the right one to handle their matter.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a Juris Doctorate Degree in Law. I have been practicing law for over 35 years and have been mediating disputes for over 25 years . . .since long before it became the "fashion". I have also been preparing Wills and Trusts for over 35 years. In law school, I received the American Jurisprudence Award for Wills and Trusts. I received my mediation training at the New West Counseling Center which covered the psychology of mediating disputes and getting parties to work together. I also volunteer in the Los Angeles Superior Courts as a mediator (currently in Van Nuys and Chatsworth and formerly in Burbank and San Fernando). I am also on the Los Angeles County Bar Association's attorney fee dispute resolution panel as a mediator and arbitrator. I am the president of the Board of Directors of a Homeowners' Association which gives me broad experience in dealing with many different disputes.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Growing up, I was fascinated by the law . . . my father was an attorney and I saw his passion for the work he did. It rubbed off on me. As for mediations, very early in my career as an attorney, I was appalled at the amount of money people were spending on TWO lawyers. I wanted to find a way to eliminate long, drawn-out court battles and the emotional toll on the parties. That's when I started meeting with both sides (and their attorneys, if applicable) to work things out. Even though I have been an attorney for 35 years, I still LOVE WHAT I DO! I especially like working with people.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I work with people from all walks of life . . . from the couple who just bought their first home (or had their first child) and needs a Living Trust, to the people who have disputes with others and just need a "middle man" to help them resolve their issues. I have mediated all types of family law disputes as well as probate matters (will contests). Each individual situation is different and I make sure I'm the right person for the job before I take on the matter.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Recently, I was retained by a couple to help them mediate the issues in their divorce. After about an hour of talking together, it was apparent that neither one wanted a divorce . . . they just needed to open a line of communication. So, I referred them to a marriage counselor and they are working out their differences. It made me very happy to "lose" these clients! Another couple recently came to me for a LivingTrust. They were going on an extended and quite adventurous vacation in one week and wanted to have the peace of mind knowing that their beneficiaries would be taken care of "just in case". A few days later, they came in and signed their trust . I just heard from them that they are back and had an awesome time !

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Be sure to speak with the professional on the phone before deciding to retain (or reject) them. Read their recommendations or reviews if any (clients often won't leave reviews because their relationship with their attorney is sensitive and confidential). You can get a good feeling about whether or not you will be able to work together just by speaking with them for about 10 minutes. There should be no charge for this phone call as it helps everyone feel comfortable with the person they are about to hire.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Always ask about how the attorney handles matters. Does she seem "confrontational" or one who will be able to work with both sides? Does she listen to your concerns and answer your questions directly? You need to feel comfortable with the person you are hiring. No question is "dumb" . Ask it . . I will always be available.
