Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
At the K&M law firm, we have a very dynamic and flexible pricing structure that varies based on the type of legal services, the complexity of a matter, and whether a client has worked with our firm in the past. But most of all, we are here to work with you to fit your budget and your needs. Consultations are always free, and we work hard to not only bring you customer satisfaction and results, but provide such a positive experience that you refer us to others.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Once you, as a prospective client reach out to us regarding a legal matter, our intake team typically contacts you within one to two business days to find out the facts of the case. Soon thereafter, an attorney will either schedule a phone consultation and/or in-person meeting to discuss legal strategies and potential costs. From there, if both sides deem each other as a good fit, a representation agreement is signed, and we're on our way to tackling the legal issues that led you to us.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Each of our staff members have graduated from law school and possess various undergraduate backgrounds including: government, international politics, business administration, finance, and engineering. Members of our staff have also owned their own businesses prior to becoming lawyers including entities in information technology, healthcare, real estate, construction, sports, and retail. Additionally, we've had staff members that were former patent examiners and senior management supervisors at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). We are a staff that are not your typical lawyers who just have knowledge of legal matters. Instead, because of our experience in technical, business, governmental, and real-world issues, it gives us a step-up over our competition.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Most lawyers choose their profession because that was their lifelong dream. For the staff of the K&M law firm, we became interested in the legal field because of negative experiences we had with lawyers in our past. Each of us wanted to become attorneys that would be focused on proper representation of clients, rather than attorneys that only cared about their wallets and billing, since we were all at one point in our lives victims of the latter. And since establishing the K&M law firm, we have upheld our virtues where customers choose us not because we are the most affordable, but rather because of our knowledge, integrity, and honesty.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
At the K&M law firm, we have worked with a wide spectrum of clients. From entertainment artists to construction companies, from high-end dental clients to students aspiring to start their own businesses out of college, and from foreign diplomats to state judges, we accept anyone and everyone who needs a lawyer to be by their side.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
There are many cases at the K&M law firm that we are proud of. From effectively settling a multi-million dollar business and property dispute between partners, to recovering significant backpay wages and overtime for an employee misclassified as an independent contractor. From obtaining a massive six-figure judgment for a breach of contract, to protecting the rights of heirs and beneficiaries in a multi-jurisdiction estate-related lawsuit. From helping grow a construction and home remodeling company from the ground up, to helping transition ownership of a business to a son after his father passed away. And from providing guardianship and conservatorship duties for an elderly individual after their family abandoned them, to successfully representing a tenant against a landlord for a mold-infected apartment - we have had the full gamut of legal work that we are proud of in achieving positive results for our clients.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
The best advice to give a client that is looking for a lawyer is to ensure that whomever you hire is not only knowledgeable and experienced in the particular legal practice area, but also does not treat you as if you are a file number. Compassion, chemistry, and compatibility are very critical in a healthy, long-term relationship with any legal counsel. If you don't feel comfortable with a particular lawyer, do not hire them. Do not settle for someone out of desperation. Make sure you do your due diligence, and hire the right attorney so that you get the peace of mind that you were initially seeking.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
First, before meeting with an attorney, make sure you have gathered all appropriate documents, statements, facts, data, and information that could be relevant to your legal matter. There is no such thing as too much information, but try to assemble as much as you can in advance of a meeting so an attorney can properly tackle the issue with as much information on the table. Secondly, try to write down or type the facts or the "story" so there's flow to your inquiry. That way either you or the attorney is not going all over the place, and there's rhythm and chronology to the conversation. And finally, think of what your goals are for a particular case. Not all legal goals are the same for everyone and they tend to evolve as time passes. Make sure you are able to communicate to any attorney not only what the possible or potential problem or issue is, but also what are you trying to seek as the remedy or the goal.
