What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I do not have a standard pricing system as every case is different. I offer a free 30-minute, no pressure, consultation where we will go over your individual situation, answer any questions you may have, and the costs associated with resolving your issue. Additionally, during the estate planning process, I send you drafts that are easily manipulated and reused. Because of this, I require payment up front as it makes us both invested in the project.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I offer a free 30 minute consultation to go over your individual, or family, situation where we will discuss the documents necessary to assist you. If a client decides to retain me, I require the online questionnaire completed and payment of the retainer. After payment is made and the questionnaire is submitted, you will receive drafts of the documents within 5-7 business days. From there we will discuss the changes the client wishes to make to the documents. After the changes have been made a final draft of the documents will be sent to the email address on file.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in University Studies at the University of Texas at Arlington, I attended law school at Texas A&M University (Gig em' Aggies). While there, I discovered my love and passion for all things wills, estate, and trusts.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I grew up believing that I would be a high school math teacher. I loved the rules that came along with solving Algebra equations. Then, while in college, I was picked to serve on a jury. From that point on I was enthralled with the law. After graduating law school and passing the Texas bar, I became a family lawyer. I handled divorces, child custody disputes, grandparent rights, etc. During this time I also prepared will ensembles, trusts, and other estate planning documents. After two and a half years of fighting over toilet paper and paper towels, I made the decision to only handle wills and estates issues. Not only is it an honor to assist my clients, but I throughly enjoy ensuring that my clients have the documents necessary to assist their family or physicians upon their incapacity or death.

Individuals, young and old. Business Owners, start-ups to those with millions of dollars of revenue every year. Single moms. Single dads. Divorcees. Blended Families (Individuals are step-parents). Retirees. Individuals with terminal illnesses.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

A fancy office with plaques on the wall is not everything. Find someone who understands your concerns and needs, and who is willing to answer your questions without rushing you out the door. You will be discussing the inevitable, look for an attorney who you feel comfortable with discussing your personal affairs.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

The hardest questions: clients have to consider are: 1. Who will take care of my minor child(ren) upon my death? This question stumps many parents. Most often it is because they don't know who would be the best person to protect their children. It can also be that they do not want to upset family members over choosing another loved one. 2. If I am incapacitated, who will manage my affairs? No one wants to think about going into a nursing home or rehabilitation facility. Many times, people mark their children down as the individuals chosen as their agent. However, it can not always be a good idea to list a child. If your child is not good with their money, they may not be good with yours. Also, parents want their children, as agents, to work together on making the decisions. But, that may not always work either. For example, if two out of three children want to create a trust for your benefit and the third child refuses, then a trust will not be created.
