When hiring a property manager it is important to know not all property managers are the same. Be sure to understand any fees involved. Many fees are hidden underneath a low management fee to attract customers. Also important to understand is what you are getting in return for the managment fee. Usually the price difference between a really good manager and a bad one is only a couple hundred dollars a year. The wrong manager can end up costing you far more than the few dollars you saved. Higher than necessary maintenance costs, selecting the wrong tenants who damage your home (or worse don't pay their rent), excessive vacancies, and your wasted time chasing a manager who isn't responsive can be costly.
