Introduction

I have worked in the trades for over 30 years and I’m a skilled carpenter, mason and painter. I am careful, detail oriented, considerate and neat. I have a crew of professional tradespeople and I expect excellence from all of them. I cut my teeth working for a historic restoration contractor in New England and I am skilled at matching the existing colors, applications and aesthetic of almost any structure. Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I used to think there had to be a winner and a loser in any negotiation but I've learned that it's only a good deal when both parties feel like they're getting a good deal. That's my goal. I want to provide quality work at fair prices.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I've done a couple of jobs without seeing them first and it's never worked well. Every customer has different expectations and constraints so I like to meet, see the job and understand what the customer is trying to achieve. I then like to give them as many options as possible and let them choose the option that fits them best.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I learned my trades under master craftsmen in New England. It was an old-fashioned apprenticeship where I started with menial tasks until I proved myself. It was all OJT (on the job training) for me.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I started my professional career at sixteen working in construction. My father felt like hard work was the answer to most any challenges life hands out and my brothers and I were encouraged to start work at an early age. The truth is, I like it too.

What types of customers have you worked with?

You meet all sorts of people working in the trades and everyone is a little different. I just try to be considerate to each customers needs.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I framed a barn without any nails. It was all mortise and tenon construction. That barn will outlast me by many, many years. I really like to do work that will last.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Ask questions. If something doesn't sound or look right, it's probably not. Also, a word about the internet. There are plenty of really good sites and resources online but there are just as many professional looking videos that give really bad information.
