Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
At Pro Builders & Design, we believe in transparent and fair pricing. Here are a few key things to know: No Hidden Fees: All costs are clearly outlined in your estimate. We do our best to avoid surprises. Custom Quotes: Every project is unique, so our pricing is tailored based on your specific scope of work, site conditions, and design choices. Design Credit: If you move forward with construction after the design phase, your design fees are credited toward the total project cost. Payment Schedule: Payments are broken into manageable phases tied to project milestones, so you pay as the work progresses. Seasonal Discounts: Occasionally, we offer limited-time promotions or discounts for projects that align with our current schedule. Competitive Pricing: We always aim to provide the highest value—not just the lowest price—by combining quality craftsmanship, efficient project management, and great customer service.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
At Pro Builders & Design, our goal is to make the process smooth, transparent, and stress-free. Here’s what you can typically expect when working with us: Initial Consultation: We start with a free phone call or in-person visit to understand your vision, goals, and budget. This helps us determine if we're the right fit for your project. Site Visit & Evaluation: We schedule a site visit to assess the property, take measurements, and evaluate any conditions that might impact the design or construction. Design & Planning Phase: If plans are needed, we connect you with our in-house designer or architect. We work closely with you to develop a layout and design that meets your needs and complies with city regulations. Detailed Estimate & Scope of Work: Once the design is clear, we provide a detailed scope of work, timeline, and pricing breakdown so you can make an informed decision. Permitting & Approvals: We handle the permitting process, working with city officials, engineers, and inspectors to get the green light for construction. Construction Phase: We begin building, with regular updates, inspections, and walk-throughs. You’ll have full visibility into progress and schedules. Final Walkthrough & Completion: Once the job is complete, we do a final walkthrough with you to ensure everything meets expectations. We don’t consider the job done until you’re fully satisfied. We’re here every step of the way to guide you through the process and make sure you feel confident in your investment.

Most importantly, our education continues every day on the job—refining our skills and delivering top-quality work for our clients.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I got started in construction out of a genuine passion for building and problem-solving. Early on, I worked hands-on in the field, learning the trade from the ground up—everything from framing and finish carpentry to project management. Over time, I realized how much I enjoyed not just the physical work, but also helping people bring their ideas to life and guiding them through the process. That drive led me to start Pro Builders & Design, where I could combine my technical skills, design experience, and customer-first mindset to deliver high-quality projects and a smoother construction experience. It’s been incredibly rewarding to build spaces that improve how people live—and to do it with care, communication, and craftsmanship.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
At Pro Builders & Design, we’ve had the privilege of working with a wide range of clients, including: Homeowners looking to build ADUs, remodel kitchens and bathrooms, or add living space to their property. Real estate investors focused on maximizing property value through strategic renovations or additions. Property managers and landlords who need reliable construction services for rental upgrades and code compliance. First-time renovators who appreciate guidance through the design, permitting, and construction process. Repeat clients and referrals who return to us for new projects because of the quality, communication, and trust we provide. Whether you’re building from scratch or improving an existing space, we’re experienced in adapting to different needs, styles, and budgets to deliver great results.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
One recent project I’m especially proud of was a detached ADU we completed in San Carlos, CA. It was a compact but highly functional 2-bedroom, 2-bath unit designed for multigenerational living. The lot had some challenges—tight access and sloped terrain—but we worked closely with the homeowner on a smart layout and used vaulted ceilings to create a spacious feel. From initial planning and design to permits and full construction, the project took about 5 months. What made it memorable was how collaborative the process was. The clients were involved every step of the way, and we were able to deliver the project on time and within their budget. In the end, it became a beautiful, private space that added real value to their property and quality of life.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Hiring the right contractor can make all the difference, so here’s my advice: Check Licensing and Insurance: Always make sure the contractor is properly licensed, bonded, and insured. It protects you and ensures you’re working with a legitimate professional. Ask for References and Past Work: A good contractor should have a portfolio and happy customers willing to vouch for their work. Don’t be afraid to ask. Get a Detailed Scope of Work: Make sure the estimate clearly outlines what’s included—materials, labor, timelines, and payment schedule. This helps avoid miscommunication later. Don’t Automatically Choose the Lowest Bid: The cheapest price can sometimes lead to poor quality or surprise costs. Look for the best value, not just the lowest number. Pay Attention to Communication: How a contractor communicates in the beginning is often how they’ll communicate throughout the project. Choose someone who is responsive, clear, and transparent. Plan Ahead: Good contractors are often booked in advance. Starting the process early gives you time to plan, get permits, and avoid rushing into decisions. Ultimately, trust your instincts and choose someone you feel comfortable working with—you’ll be partnering with them for weeks or months.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Before meeting with a contractor, it's helpful to think through a few key questions: What’s my budget? Knowing your range helps guide design and material decisions. What’s the goal of the project? Are you building for rental income, family use, or resale value? What features do I need? Consider layout, number of bedrooms/bathrooms, and must-have details. Do I have a timeline in mind? An ideal start or finish date helps with planning. What’s the condition of my property? Any access issues, slopes, or drainage problems we should know? How involved do I want to be? Whether hands-on or hands-off, it’s good to set expectations early. Having answers to these will help your contractor give better advice and more accurate estimates from the start.
