Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Recently we did a partial remodel of a basement bathroom. We spent 3.5 days working on the project and it involved demo of a tile floor, shower stall, vanity and toilet. We changed the plumbing supply lines and the shower valve including raising the height of the shower head. I guided the clients in choosing their new materials and we got all the needed items on site, installed the shower pan and poured floor leveler to even and raise the sub floor. Then we installed luxury vinyl plank flooring, the vanity, sink, faucet, flooring, baseboard and toilet. We then installed a bathroom fan with a light and vented it to the exterior. We painted the old chrome hardware to make it dark bronze and reinstalled it. We installed the shower surround, drywall finished the walls around it and textured. We removed all debris and kept the home clean throughout the process.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Be sure to pick up the phone and reach out possibly more than once, text is better than voice mail. Often projects get buried under other projects in a pros inbox. Also remember the person you want to hire should be busy working for someone else, maybe up on a ladder or under a house at the time you reach out. Check past and present reviews. And be sure to hire someone who is qualified for your particular project. Consider hiring a pro to do a small but complicated job to get to know them before jumping into a larger one. Things that are small but complicated could be installing ceiling fans, toilets, towel racks, artwork or assembling of furniture, changing a garbage disposal or dishwasher, repair a small hole in the wall and blend the texture, swap out a light fixture. All of these things are small by themselves but big jobs are made up of many of these.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Important things to think about before taking on a project. What are your needs and what are your wants? What is your budget and time frame for a project? Are you able to produce photos to help communicate the vision? What are the times that you’d like us to be on site? Would you like us to take the debris off site? Have you had issues or successes in past projects to avoid or model?
