Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We have fair competative pricing. We price all our projects the same way. We base our costs on the actual projects cost to build, plus a percentage.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We start with a free consultation, then a series of meetings to discuss your project. At these meeting we try to understand why you want this work done and how you intend to use the new work area. This gives us an understanding of your needs, making it easier to design your project so it meets your every desire. This sometimes takes several meetings to accomplish, depending on the project scope of work. Once we have a good idea of what you want, we then put together a rough design package and pricing for the project. If the project is with in your budget and all looks good, contracts are signed and we proceed with pre construction items like, drawings, plans, and permitting,

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
We are a Florida State Certified Licensed General Contractor. I am the owner and the licensed holder. I graduated college with a degree in Industrial Arts, in Architectural Drawing, Wood working and Structural Building. It's also required as the licensed holder to take 14 hours of Continuing Education courses between each license renewal period. Besides picking the subjects we are interested in; the state requires certain topics like Safety and wind mitigation. The required topics change each year to give us a rounded portfolio.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started working in this field as the age of 12, working for my neighbor who was a General Contractor at the time. I found I really enjoyed building things, and I was good at it. I worked through my college years until I graduated and took a teaching job teaching Architectural Drawing and Wood Working. I only taught for a couple years, then started Fitzgerald Construction in 1981, Then in 2021 we changed our name to The WoodShop SWFL LLC so we could add fine furniture to our scope.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We have worked with all types of customers. Some want everything done, while others may want to do parts of the project themselves. We are easy to get along with and try to satisfy our customers needs and work with them anyway we can.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I find that we are proud of all our projects. The more our client likes the end result of their project, the better we feel about it. Its very rewarding to take a space that's outdated and worn and bring it back to life, and to build the perfect space from scratch, so its hard to pick just one, but I guess it would be the projects that included the building of custom cabinetry and built-ins as that type of building is truly my passion.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
When hiring a Contractor, no matter how large or small your project may be, always check with local and State jurisdiction to confirm the company is fully licensed and Insured for this work.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Prior to talking to a General Contractor, its a good idea to really think through what types of spaces you and your family need, and just how you would use that space, what type of storage you need, and how much. Its also good to know what style you would want to go with, be it modern, traditional, Spanish, and so on. These are exactly the type of information we are looking for when we meet you so we can better design the exact type of space you need and want.
