Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We price each project specifically for your home and your budget. We offer turn-key pricing or labor only pricing when our customers prefer to purchase materials themselves.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Every project starts with a free, in-home meeting. We'll discuss your goals for the project and assemble a budget to achieve that goal.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I've worked in high-end, custom home construction since 2005 and a licensed general contractor since 2008. My degree is in public relations, a communications field, from the University of Florida. As a general contractor, 90% of my job is communication between my customers and my subcontractors on site, and my degree has certainly helped with that part of my responsibilities.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
The Gray family has been building custom homes in the Tampa Bay area since 1981. My folks, Harry and Brenda Gray, started their business building some of the most recognizable homes in many of the most exclusive communities in the area. My brother and I worked with the family business as a kid, sweeping floors and digging holes on weekends. But I started working full-time for Gray Homes in 2005. In 2015, I opened my own business focused on remodeling and additions, while also building new custom homes. I'm a problem solver at heart and I take immeasurable pride in standing back to look at a home I've helped to build.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We have completed projects all over the Tampa Bay area for young families, empty nesters and everything in between. I have helped many investors flip homes and managed construction on several new investment homes. Recently we've been helping homeowners with flood damage repair their damaged homes and in some cases start new on their lot with a design that is above flood level.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I love the variety of general contracting. I recently completed an outdoor project - new pool, covered patio structure, outdoor kitchen and pool cage - in north Tampa. At the same time, we were remodeling a kitchen in south Tampa and building a custom home in Odessa.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I always recommend meeting with the contractor to make sure you can communicate well with them. Any construction project is a long-term relationship and it's important that you can relate well with the person you are entrusting to steer your project through to completion.
