What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Every project is different. Each one requiring its own detailed estimate. Anyone who says otherwise is either trying to sell something or they don't know what they're doing.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I like to get a full understanding for what the customer's expectations are. From there I can guide them into realizing their goals and if I can't then will let them know. I will not perform any unsafe or sub-standard work in order to meet a specific price point. I will offer suggestions as to how to remain within a desired budget. Once we find a solution then I give the customers a fully detailed scope of work outlining everything from timeline to materials. Then I get to work.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

15 years of real estate and construction related experience. I am a licensed contractor in Westchester and Suffolk Counties in New York, and the state of New Jersey. I am an active real estate investor and licensed real estate agent in New York and New Jersey. I have worked on all sides of a real estate transaction which gives me a unique perspective into all facets concerning a property, not just the construction aspects. I can determine based off of experience what home renovations will statistically yield the highest increase in property value and which ones won't. I am also in the process of obtaining my Home Inspection License.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

Helping my father since I was 10 ten years old on construction sites.

Everyone from real estate investors to luxury home owners to property managers.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Recently completed a full home re-build on a 1600 sq/ft home in New Jersey. The project was completed start to finish in just over 7 weeks and was a complete transformation.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Think about what you're asking for and how much work is involved. Search around for materials and start adding them up on paper. Be realistic as to how long it takes to complete certain tasks. What you see on T.V. is NOT realistic. Those home channel shows are designed to keep you watching. If it sounds to good to be true it probably is. Keep in mind when you decide on a contractor that next to hiring your doctor, your contractor is the next in line who has direct responsibility for your safety. They are either building or renovating a structure that will house your entire family. Do you really want sub-standard work that can lead to a weak and dangerous structure, fire, mold, asbestos contamination? You get what you pay for in this business so choose wisely.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Think about your life during the construction process and how it will be affected. If you're having a bathroom renovation completed and you only have one bathroom there might be some issues to discuss with your contractor. If you are time limited than your material selection will alter accordingly. Also, come up with a realistic budget and be honest about it with your contractor. Leave room for those unexpected issues and always have a plan b for your design that you can live with just in case your builder uncovers some hidden issues that will drive up costs.
