How did you get started doing this type of work?

I was raised in Mennonite Country in Ohio...my Dad was a carpenter/home builder and my first boss owned a hardware store and lumber yard. I began working for him when I was 14. I then got a 2 year degree in drafting and began by drawing house plans for a local home builder. After completing various remodels and additions, I started my own construction/home improvement business in 1998.

What types of customers have you worked with?

Additions, kitchen and bath conversions, basement build outs, room conversions, burn and flood damage.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I recently built a 2 story addition for a client that consisted of a dining room, bedroom, bonus room and a full bath. In the middle of the project, the home owner decided to completely redo his kitchen so we gutted the entire kitchen area and redesigned a new kitchen from floor to ceiling.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Always check a provider before hiring them. Make sure they are properly licensed and insured. Check with the Better Business Bureau and see what their score is.
