Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Our pricing reflects the quality, detail, and professionalism we bring to every project. We provide transparent, itemized estimates with no hidden fees. While we don’t typically offer discounts, we do work within your budget to provide the best value possible. Change orders are clearly documented and approved before any additional work begins.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We start with an initial consultation to understand your goals, timeline, and budget. From there, we schedule a site visit, provide a rough estimate, and if aligned, move into design, planning, and permitting. Once finalized, we begin construction with clear communication, progress updates, and a focus on quality craftsmanship every step of the way.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Our team brings years of hands-on experience in residential construction, design, and project management. We've trained under licensed professionals, completed industry certifications, and continuously stay updated on local building codes, energy standards, and best practices to ensure every project meets the highest quality and safety standards.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
What started as a passion for design, problem-solving, and hands-on craftsmanship quickly grew into a full-time career. After working alongside experienced contractors and managing projects from the ground up, I launched Icon Home Builders to bring a more personalized, detail-oriented approach to remodeling—where quality, communication, and client experience come first.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We've worked with a wide range of homeowners—from first-time buyers renovating their starter homes to experienced property investors and high-end clients seeking full custom remodels. Whether it’s a single-room update or a full-scale home transformation, we tailor our approach to each client’s needs, lifestyle, and vision.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
One of my favorite recent projects was a kitchen remodel in Oakland with a transitional Art Deco design. The homeowner fully embraced bold colors, unique patterns, and vintage-inspired details, which made the space truly one of a kind. What started as a standard kitchen remodel evolved into something much more, with additional scopes of work added along the way. The project took about 16 weeks and was a great example of how creativity, trust, and collaboration can lead to an unforgettable result.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Look beyond the lowest bid. Make sure the contractor is licensed, insured, and has a strong portfolio of completed work. Ask about their process, timeline, and how they handle changes or issues. Most importantly, choose someone you trust—communication and accountability are just as important as craftsmanship when it comes to a successful remodel.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Before reaching out, it's helpful to think about your goals, budget range, timeline, and how involved you want to be in the design process. Consider what isn’t working in your current space and what you’d like to change. Also, think about your style preferences, must-haves vs. nice-to-haves, and whether you'll live in the home during construction. Having clarity on these points helps professionals guide you more effectively from day one.
