I became an interior designer because my mother and I designed our kitchen for baking. Working with clients to reimagine their spaces is how I share my memory with the world.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Tinajas Wine and Beer just opened back in December of 2024 and the space is breathtaking with each little design detail. I enjoyed designing the custom furniture, bar, and many other design details hidden within the bar. This bar is the first sunken bar in Tucson, Arizona, where the bartender and the guest can see eye to eye because the back bar floor is 8" lower.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Choose an interior designer who has traveled a great deal or seems to be constantly discovering new sources for materials and design solutions. Many designers just simply repeat the same design solution and aesthetic. You want a professional who will tailor the space to fit you needs and be solving design problems you might not even have thought of before.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Some of the best questions to ask are: 1) Can you share examples of past projects similar to mine? Intrepid's Answer: Yes! I have a whole portfolio of projects that I can provide links to that are similar to your project. 2) How would you describe your design aesthetic? What if mine is different? Intrepid's Answer: Design aesthetics are a very personal thing and change over time. They are separate from trends and evolve more slowly as we go through stages of life. Right now, my favorite design styles are cinematic heritage, wabi-sabi, japandi, and eclectic modern. Let me know if you would like me to create an alternate look book for you in any of these styles for your space. 3) Where do you find inspiration for your designs? Intrepid's Answer: I travel a few times a year to learn about new vendors, inventors of materials, and source accessories and art. I also use research to inspire my design decisions. 4) How do you handle project management and coordination with contractors? Intrepid's Answer: Intrepid provided project observation and coordination with contractors and other building art-related professionals in the two top packages offered. In the top package, Intrepid will provide what we call the onion of design, or a checklist for each subcontractor needed to complete your design vision for you to hand to your contractor or individual subcontractors. If coordination is not offered in a package but a client would like assistance with this, Intrepid can provide an additional proposal. 5) What is a typical timeline for a project like mine? Intrepid's Answer: Generally the design process takes 30-45 business days from start to finish, working with you directly. Then, construction can begin based on the scale of your project and the timeline for ordering furnishings and materials. 6) How do you structure your fees, and what is included? Intrepid's Answer: We provide set pricing packages for most design situations with a fee schedule provided in the contract for hourly work outside of the original scope. Example: So, Intrepid will provide a proposal with a retainer request for your kitchen. If you have a question about something in your living room, I will send a text requesting approval for time and cost to answer your questions outside of the original contract before providing information. This way you always know how much design fees cost upfront. 7) How involved can I be in the design process? Intrepid's Answer: Just enough to achieve your design goals. Intrepid provides a step-by-step process that involves understanding your design issues and style preferences, but then takes the reins and provides you with a package of answers and solutions. Ultimately, we listen to your thoughts, feelings, and possible solutions about your space and then help you complete a design solution. We also offer shopping in-person services for those who are DIYing or just need recommendations or help navigating purchases. 8) How do you communicate updates and decisions throughout the project? Intrepid's Answer: We provide an 24/7 accessible online dashboard for each client project and room. The client can approve, decline, or leave notes on any furnishing or material before an invoice is requested to order those items. For design decisions such as layouts, we discuss them in person and provide one update or change to the project documents before moving forward with the project. 9) Can you work within my budget, and how do you prioritize spending? Intrepid's Answer: Yes! Intrepid can help you understand what it might cost to bring your design goals to life. Based on our initial discussion, we can discuss what the ballpark range is for your project so that you can understand and feel comfortable making design decisions at every stage of your project. I can also provide examples of budgets from past projects similar to yours. 10) What is your favorite part of design? Intrepid's Answer: My favorite part of design is helping clients reach and exceed their design goals! Knowing that I made a positive change an impact is so rewarding.
