Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

We are a business that takes pride in being owned and operated by veterans. We extend our gratitude to the military community by offering them exclusive discounts.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Our procedure commences with a pre-arranged consultation. During this session, we engage in a detailed discussion about your project, capturing all necessary information, measurements, photos, and any existing drawings or plans. This data is then uploaded to an application we utilize called ‘Company Cam’. Here, we establish a comprehensive project profile that includes progress reports, photos, checklists, purchased items, permits obtained, and the names of employees and subcontractors involved in the project. We ensure transparency by sharing a link to this project profile via email, granting you complete access to all details pertaining to your project. Subsequently, we assemble a thorough proposal for the job. Upon your acceptance, we present a detailed 10-14 page contract that precisely outlines our responsibilities, expectations, payment schedules, change management procedures, job site appearance, and even parking arrangements. Once the contract is signed, we proceed to establish a start date and an anticipated completion date. For larger scale projects, we schedule walkthroughs at specific dates. Three days prior to project completion, we conduct a punch list walk to identify any remaining tasks that need to be completed, ensuring nothing is overlooked. This meticulous process ensures we deliver a high-quality result that meets your expectations.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Boasting over a decade of hands-on experience in construction and more than 20 years in upper management, I offer a robust blend of knowledge and expertise. My track record includes the successful operation of Branch Out Tree Trimming, a tree trimming and removal company in Lexington, KY, which has garnered an impressive number of 5-star ratings on Google, outperforming all local competitors combined. What distinguishes me is my commitment to ongoing education and improvement. I make it a point to stay updated with the latest industry best practices, business management techniques, policy updates, and procedural advancements. I also seek out innovative tools that can boost our efficiency and productivity. My primary objective is to deliver an unparalleled customer experience, and any rating less than 5 stars is deemed a shortfall in our service delivery. This unwavering dedication to customer satisfaction and continuous enhancement is what truly sets us apart.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My journey in the construction industry began immediately after high school, where I started at the grassroots level, carrying lumber and performing essential tasks, once I graduated to swing the hammer I quickly discovered my knack for creative and practical problem-solving. I was fortunate to join a reputable mid-sized company that specialized in building custom homes valued around 1 million plus, this is where I learned the importance of attention to detail and creating the customer experience. My mentor instilled in me a valuable lesson: while most construction companies can build the same house, what sets you apart is how you add value in treating your clients with respect, listening attentively to both spoken and unspoken needs, and delivering on both fronts. Now, I have ventured out on my own, equipped with the necessary tools to provide a quality build, an exceptional customer experience, and foster long-lasting relationships. This commitment to quality, customer service, and relationship-building is what defines my approach to business.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
While I currently collaborate with Fortune 500 companies on construction and renovation projects, I have recently begun to reconnect with my roots by expanding my residential customer base. This is where my true passion lies. I understand that working with homeowners brings a unique level of emotional investment to each project. After all, these are the spaces where families grow, memories are created, and after a long day, it’s where we find solace. The emotional value attached to these projects makes every challenging day worth it.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

We once assisted a family whose house had flooded on Christmas morning. After receiving the green light from the insurance adjuster, we embarked on a comprehensive renovation journey. The family had outgrown their current setup and decided to use the insurance money, supplemented with a loan, to completely transform their home. Our renovation included knocking out load-bearing walls and replacing them with beams, relocating the kitchen to the other side of the house along with the necessary plumbing, and adding closets in previously unused spaces within the walls. We constructed a spacious walk-in laundry room complete with cabinets, a utility sink, and a utility closet. We also built a sizable 25x15 bedroom over the garage, which had previously been inaccessible. This was made possible by creating a hallway where a walk-in closet once was. We discovered another 12x12 space where we created a half bathroom for an upstairs bedroom and managed to build six more closets throughout the house. We even utilized the space under the stairs to create a full pantry. By the end of the renovation, the house had expanded from just under 1300 sqft to a staggering 2500 sqft, all without any external additions to the house. This project is a testament to the fact that with an open mind and a dash of creativity, truly remarkable transformations can be achieved. The entire project, from start to finish, took about eight months to complete.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
In the realm of construction, it’s not uncommon to receive diverse estimates for identical tasks, each carrying a distinct price tag. Often, homeowners gravitate towards lower-priced contractors who appear competent. However, it’s crucial to understand that there are no direct comparisons in construction, as even building codes and regulations can be subject to interpretation. My steadfast belief is that if a company invests time in crafting a highly detailed contract, it should be your preferred choice, irrespective of the cost. The reasons are manifold: a comprehensive contract precludes the occurrence of unexpected bills at the project’s conclusion. It provides a clear delineation of the company’s responsibilities, ensuring you’re fully safeguarded should they fail to deliver. It also offers clarity on their approach to various scenarios. Consider the following: is it more advantageous to save $1000 but be burdened with constant worry, having to push, direct, and remind the company of every detail agreed upon? Or would it be more beneficial to pay a slight premium, carry on with your daily routine, and be free from any concerns? For me if I need to be the general contractor of my own project I would rather save all the money and do the job myself.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Before speaking with a company, customers should consider the following questions: What is the scope of the project? Have a clear understanding of what you want to achieve. This includes the scale of the project, the areas involved, and the desired outcome. What is your budget? Determine how much you are willing to spend on the project. This will guide the discussion about materials, labor, and the overall feasibility of your goals. What is your timeline? Establish when you would like the project to start and the desired completion date. Remember to allow some flexibility for unforeseen delays. Do you have any specific materials or brands in mind? If you have preferences for certain materials or brands, communicate this to the contractor. What are your must-haves and deal-breakers? Identify the non-negotiable elements of your project. This could be anything from a specific design feature to a firm completion date. How involved do you want to be in the project? Some homeowners prefer to be involved in every decision, while others prefer to give the contractor more control. Do you have any concerns or special considerations? This could include concerns about the disruption to your daily life, safety precautions, maintaining certain aesthetic elements, etc. Remember, a good contractor will appreciate your preparedness and be able to provide more accurate advice and estimates when these details are clear.
