Introduction

Marrick Properties has been in the remodeling business since 2000. For the last 11 years we have focused exclusively on remodeling basements and have remodeled more than 60 basements. We install kitchens, wet bars, bathrooms, bedrooms, exercise rooms, theater rooms, playrooms, game rooms, egress windows and any other features the customer requests.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

The initial bid is based on the size and scope of the project. As the project progresses and changes are made the price will be adjusted accordingly. Recently, bids have ranged from $37/sq. ft. to $55/sq. ft. The price is largely determined by the finishing materials the customer chooses. For example, a 60" vanity as opposed to a 36" vanity or bathroom tile at $4.50/sq. ft. instead of $1.99/sq. ft or an accent wall of wooden acoustic wall panels instead of a wall painted in several colors. These tradeoffs have to be made for every finishing item.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

The process starts with an on-site visit to hear from the customer about the design they have in mind. A drawing of the project is then prepared and emailed to the customer. A preliminary bid is also sent to the customer for their review.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I worked with a builder initially, and I have also rehabbed homes to flip. My crew has rehabbed 22 of my own rental properties.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I started by rehabbing properties to rent or flip.

What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked with any homeowner who wants their basement finished.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

We finished a 1200 sq. ft. basement in Leawood with a curved stairway, a beautiful wet bar with an island and a stunning bathroom. The project took 12 weeks to complete.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Are they licensed and insured? What are their reviews? Do you like what you see in the pictures of their work?

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

What is the main purpose of the project, e.g. extra living space like bedrooms and bathrooms or is it recreational with such things as a theater room, game room, exercise room, etc.
