Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Our pricing is very competitive since we don't have an expensive showroom. You are not required to purchase all of your fixtures and tile from us with a heavy mark-up. Instead, we can refer you to several showrooms where we have accounts (with our discounted pricing) or your local home improvement stores. We have recommended lenders for you if you would like to finance your project.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
The first part of the process is to listen. We want to know your vision and desires first. Then, we will make suggestions based on that information. This is a team effort. When we sign a contract, we want it to be final. We want to be on autopilot when we start your project. We are highly organized with many decades of experience. Communication is extremely important. We will be in constant contact with you via phone, email, or text. You will have a schedule for your project. You'll be updated immediately when there is a change. You won't be wondering if someone is coming today.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
22 years of experience remodeling basements and bathrooms. We've done more than $60 million in business. We've designed and remodeled hundreds of bathrooms.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I'm Tom Hummer, the owner of Bathroom Remodeling of Maryland, Inc. I began working on Capitol Hill with my dad doing historical renovation in the mid-1980s. I loved it. Since then, I've always been in construction. I love being creative and enjoy seeing progress every day. Most of all, I get great satisfaction when I'm helping people. I love to make them smile.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
They all want the same thing. They want to be wowed with their beautiful new bathroom. They want to be able to show it off to their friends and family. They want a smooth and low stress journey through the project. We always do our best to make it happen.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
Recently, we remodeled a master bathroom that required converting a soaking tub in a platform to a free-standing tub. We then expanded the shower. We installed tile behind and around the tub which was beautiful. It created an instant focal point and what I call the "Wow Factor". If your bathroom has no "Wow Factor" then it's not done right. That's just my opinion. The project took a month to complete and it blew everyone's mind when it was finished.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure to find a company who listens to you before giving you their input. Find a company who is a team player because this is a team effort. If you can't relate to a contractor, then move on to the next one. Get multiple estimates. Don't start the project until you feel comfortable and calm. Everything must be planned out from the start. The contractor must be a great communicator if you want a smooth journey. Only hire someone who you like.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Educate yourselves on design. Look online at photos and pick out aspects and styles that you love so that you can share these images and styles with the contractors. Again, it's a team effort. The more information you can share with the contractors the better the design will be and the more consistent the scope of work will be between all of your bids. Don't settle...Make sure the contractor understands your vision and has the experience and enthusiasm to make it happen.
