Introduction

My name is Ed Ryan, I am a Certified Red Cross Swim/water safety Instructor. I also earned an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification from Central Florida College. I have been active teaching aquatic skills for more than 20 years including working at Walt Disney World Typhoon Lagoon swim program and the dive/swim programs at the EPCOT, Nemo and Friends Aquarium. I'm proud to have been part the team that developed the Aquatic guest interactive swim and dive programs at the Georgia Aquarium. I will travel to your home pool for your lessons. My experience includes working with children and adults with disabilities. I have found that lessons set at 30 to 45 minutes depending on the student, one or two lessons a week are more productive in learning to swim. My charge is $45 per lesson, the number of lessons recommended by the Red Cross is eight. The way I work with my clients is if they decide to skip a lesson at any time for any reason I will reschedule and pick up where we left off at NO COST to you. Also, if you decide you want to stop swim lessons at any time you can do so at no cost. You pay one lesson at a time, at the time of the lesson. I believe the swim program I develop uniquely for you, will meet your swim goals. Thank you. Your Swim Instructor, Ed Ryan

I had an African American man who had never been in an ocean, river, lake or pool. This student came to me after disappointing group lessons. He was a 63-year-old non swimmer who stated his goal was to snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef. We first met in October 2016 and his plan was to travel to Australia in January 2017. As red cross water safety instructor, PADI instructor and Dive Master, I advised this student that he had set the bar very high. However, if he was dedicated and willing to take instruction, his goal was achievable. We planned two one-hour lesson a week from October through mid-January. The plan was to learn to swim and be safe in the water then learn snorkeling techniques. Our plan was modified several times by extending the lesson time up to 90 minutes and using other water environments to accommodate the deep-water objectives in our training plan. In January 2017 this 63-year-old student traveled to Australia and successfully snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef, achieving his goal.
