Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Middle school and high school students require different levels of expertise, methods, and personableness. Because of this, I ensure that the rates accurately reflect the value of the tutoring experience. Middle school tutoring is set at $45, and high school tutoring is set at $65. SAT test prep is set at $100.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I usually start with a consultation to make sure that the parents can give me as much information as possible to ensure that every session optimizes their goals and needs. Some parents will opt to bypass the consultation. I operate on a first-come-first serve booking basis. If parents are interested in consistent tutoring at set times and days, that is something that can be discussed.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I graduated with a major in Biochemistry, a minor in Business, and a certificate in Spanish. I am incredibly passionate about how science and math rule our world. I believe that EVERYONE is teachable, and I mean everyone. I have worked with adolescents with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, aversions to learning, etc. and I have never failed to get them at the same level as someone who is "naturally smart." Everyone can be an "A" student.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I tutored casually in high school and college, as I noticed that I had some decent skills in being able to teach others concepts. After college, I wanted to continue this passion of mine in a more professional way. I began tutoring kids in the Bay area of all ages, and started seeing major differences in their performance. I have worked with over 50 kids so far, and I am excited to bring that number to the 1000s.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with clients of all socioeconomic, geographic, and educational backgrounds. My rates are very competitive in the market, as I realize that tutoring is a privilege that not everyone can afford. By keeping my rates loyal to dedicated parents, I have been able to work with clients with students in charter schools, public schools, private schools, home-schools, etc. I have worked with clients in the West, South, and Northeast.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I am extremely proud of my new AI tool I have been utilizing to create very accurate study guides for students post-session. My tutoring goes beyond the session itself. I give students the tools they need outside of session like study guides, cheat sheets, flashcards, and other resources based on data analysis that I have paired with an AI tool.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure that you hire someone who is passionate about more than the subject itself. The most successful tutors are not the ones who know the material the best, but the ones who can translate the material the best based on the learning style of the student.
