Introduction

Josh earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Berea College and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from UNC Charlotte. The standard rate for each session is $70 per hour

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

The customer contacts Wingspan through this platform. He/She is contacted within hours to go over needs and goals, and the customer decides whether they would like to move forward and schedule the 1st session.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Although Wingspan has no teacher certification, Josh, owner and director, holds a bachelor's degree in economics along with an MPA.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I began tutoring as a TA in college in 2006. Between 2006 and 2015, I tutored informally while working for the bank. In the fall of 2015, I realized my true passion of helping students reach their educational goals, and it was time to pursue tutoring professionally. Since then, Wingspan Learning has been helping students reach new heights with high-quality, customized, and personable instruction.

What types of customers have you worked with?

About half of Wingspan's students are in middle and high school, while the other half are in college and graduate school.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

In summer 2022, I helped two doctoral students successfully pass statistics! It had been years since I worked with statistical analyses in grad school, but I brushed up on it and it went very well!

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

(1) Do not wait long if your child is struggling in math. The longer you wait, the less time your child has to reach his/her goal and the more pressure everyone feels! (2) You don't have to commit to a certain number of sessions. Wingspan is available to students who may need just 1 or 2 sessions. (3) Although a tutor with teacher certification helps, it is not required to be a high-quality tutor. (4) Like tuition, child care, or services from a coach or specialist, tutoring should be regarded just as essential. The way tutoring makes the lives of the student, parent(s), and teacher, easier is often underrated! (5) The tutoring style of Wingspan is less lecture and more engaging. These days, the idea of another online lecture can sound DREADFUL! Homework is never assigned, students are very productive, and they often look forward to the next session!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

(1) About how many sessions are needed? (2) Which day(s) and time(s) will work best for me? (3) Am I looking for a tutor who can guarantee a certain grade or a tutor who can help my child build confidence and improve performance?
