What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

It generally takes 8 2-hour sessions to prepare, Our one-on-one tutoring IS expensive; $150 per session [although one competitor charges $240 per session and all national companies charge $65 per HALF hour. Students actually do better [and pay less] with group sessions. The more students in a group, the less each student pays. If there are 9 or more students, the original student whose home we use gets his/her tutoring for FREE!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Even though I have been preparing students for the SAT for 30 years, I read all the new research & material every year. Just a month ago, Time Magazine labeled the SAT as a "Fraud & a Hoax." Strong words, but true. The test does not give students a fair chance to do well without knowing the Strategy.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I always knew I was "test-smart;" I just didn't know why. It was during my graduate studies that I discovered the elements that allow some people to test well, and others to test poorly.

What types of customers have you worked with?

SAT, PSAT, GRE tutoring. I also teach piano, music theory, jazz & pop styles, etc.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

One girl started out with a very negative view of herself. She doubted whether college was for her, and considered herself to be "stupid." Before we even started on SAT techniques, we worked on her self-view & self-confidence. She's a Senior honor student at Duke University now.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Look for advanced degrees, professional dress, professional behavior. If a tutor agrees to meet with your teenaged son or daughter at your home when there are no adults present, he/she is NOT the right tutor for you. Our people go through stringent background checks.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

That our time is our stock in trade. The time we commit to you, including traveling to your home and driving back is time that we could have committed to someone else. If you cancel or do not show up, that is lost income to our company, and we must charge for it. That being said, we are ALWAYS willing to accommodate religious, performance, and family obligations if given advance notice.
