Introduction

Hello, My name is Dan and I used to be a High School Math Teacher. I have a bachelors degree in Mathematics from UCSD and over 18 years tutoring experience. I am available for online tutoring and some in-person tutoring in San Jose only. My area of expertise is any Math up to Pre-Calculus. I understand that Math doesn't come easy for most and I pride myself into making students feel comfortable and willing to ask questions they otherwise wouldn't in a classroom setting. Feel free to contact me for questions and I look forward to working with your student.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I charge $55/hour. Sessions can be as short or as long as necessary and I will just pro-rate it, so you pay for what you need and no more. I'm even available if your student is stuck on one simple problem. Also if you refer another student to me, you will receive additional discounts!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
When working with a new student, it's important to get a baseline. I'd like to see where your student is at and build from there. I don't believe in adding more work, however, Math builds upon previous knowledge and without that foundation is it very difficult to build a solid structure.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have three years teaching experience in the classroom and over 15 years tutoring experience. I have worked with children and adults in all age ranges and all different abilities.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I was always good at Math as a kid. I also spent many hours "suffering" through the difficult concepts until I understood them. I feel this "mental muscle" is important to have when learning complex concepts. I became a teacher and then a tutor.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with all levels of school age children and adults from basic Math to Pre-Calculus.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I love it when a student gets the confidence to perform on their own after only a few sessions with me. Everyone has it in them, sometimes they just need some direction in finding their own strengths.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
This is a personal question I feel one needs to answer for themselves. I feel that building trust and relationships is a positive step in the right direction. I have also found that certain students respond well to certain tutoring styles.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What is the outcome you’re looking for? Do you want to increase knowledge, get a better grade, simply get through the last week of school, or build a solid foundation? These will help guide me into knowing what your objectives are in order to better serve you.
