Introduction

I am a master tutor and standardized test prep specialist with over 20 years experience. I have helped hundreds of students achieve their goals on the ISEE, SSAT, SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, MCAT, and LSAT while working as an independent tutor, for The Princeton Review, and for the Academic Success Center at Worcester State University. I apply my background in cognitive science, mathematics, and education from UMass-Amherst, University of Colorado-Boulder, and Worcester State University to develop personalized strategies for each unique client or class. I am licensed in secondary nursing education by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. I am also a musician, songwriter, and music producer.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Assess the student's strengths, weaknesses, and needs, then structure the tutorial such that the student maximizes his or her potential.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I was trained by The Princeton Review to Teach and tutor SAT, ACT, GRE, LSAT, GMAT test prep. Within 3 years I was awarded "Master Tutor" status for all of these subjects. In addition to degrees in Mathematics and Psychology I have 1.5 years of graduate school credit in Education and 2.5 years of graduate school credit in Cognitive Science. Also, I remain informed as to changes ETS and other testing companies make to their materials!

How did you get started doing this type of work?

This was a gradual process. In high school I discovered my propensity for explaining school work in a manner that helped some of my friends get through their classes. I continued with this informal tutoring throughout college. In graduate school, I learned that I enjoy leading classes as well. Even upon leaving academia to pursue a career in music, I continued tutoring as a part-time endeavor.

What types of customers have you worked with?

Middle school kids to graduate students. All ages and abilities.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I helped a non-traditional student pass College Statistics after several failed attempts over many years. Not only was it the last class she needed to earn her degree, it was the last thing she wanted to accomplish before retiring after decades of work with a lesser degree. She simply wanted to achieve a goal she had set for herself long ago and it was very satisfying helping her to do so.
