Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We charge $75 per hour and recommend a 60-minute online lesson once or twice a week for English as a Second Lanugage and $125 per hour for Reading Spicialist and recommend two 30 minute lessons a week.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I like to meet with the student before any agreement is reached. I want to find out why learning English is important to you and the goals you want to reach. I want you to meet me to get a feel for the type of teacher I am. Learning English means forming a relationship so that we have topics to discuss and get to know each other.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I finished my TESOL Certificate in January of 2018. My background is in Engineering so I have a different English background than a Linguist.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I volunteered to keep track of the textbooks supply and sales for an ESL organization. One semester they needed an assistant teacher to fill in. I was hooked. The next year I taught my own class. Later I got the opportunity to work one-on-one with professionals who have relocated to the Dallas area. I truly enjoy teaching one-on-one.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with a variety of skill levels and nationalities. The students I have spent the most time with knew no English and are now comfortable asking questions at a store or talking to their childrens' teachers without someone else with them. Others have been advanced and we have worked on job presentations or writing policies. I have worked with students from Asia, India, Middle East, Russia, Europe, Central and South America. I love learning about different cultures and sharing with my students.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
One of my students was a stay at home mom that wanted to learn English. We spent 50 hours over 11 months meeting once a week. We formed a friendship during our time together and stopped meeting when she got a job in the field that she had worked in in her home country.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure you enjoy the interaction between you and the teacher. You will spend time together talking and writing.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
You get out what you put in. I know as adults we are all busy and have many obligations. I don't give much homework but the more you practice and try new words the faster you will learn.
