Introduction

I'm a great explainer, I get on well with students of all ages, my schedule is flexible and based on your needs, not mine. Also, you don't have to prepay or sign up for a set of hours in advance. Plus, I am one of the funniest guys around. Most of all, students improve their grades after tutoring with me!! Explaining, patiently helping, watching a student increasingly become more confident as (s)he begins to grasp the material, and.......getting paid to help someone relax with humor!

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Everyone pays the same - it's been $40 per hour since 2010, so as of Sept 1, 2021, I've decided to raise it to $50. Reduced rates for more than one person at a time (as long as they are covering identical material). People over the age of 85 get free tutoring......

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
There's a reason they contacted me, so I find out what they need right away. I make sure they are understanding what I try to explain to them. The only difference is, I back off on the humor until in my judgment they've been around me long enough to appreciate it.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Well, a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, 25 years teaching Chemistry at Community College, and (so far) about 12 years one-on-one tutoring in Math, Physics, Chemistry and Test Prep. (I also do English portions of the SAT, ACT, GMAT, etc.).

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I was looking for a way to pay off my car a bit sooner --- and I ended up staying! Now about those home improvements she wants some pros to come in and do........

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Students anywhere from 5th grade through undergraduate College. Mostly high school and college, and a few in lower grades.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
One of my more challenging and enjoyable projects was helping a student who had never had much precalculus. He wanted to go to a private high school out of state starting in the Fall, and didn't want to spend a year there taking precalculus -- he applied to go into Calculus. The math teacher there wanted proof that he was ready for it. I tutored him for about 20 hours spread over a couple of months in the Summer, and had him take a test that the teacher had sent (previously unopened, of course). He passed it well enough to get into Calculus for the Fall. We were all pretty high for a while after that one.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Try me out. If you're happy, everybody wins. If you are not and it just isn't a fit (very rare), then I will give you a reduced rate for your one and only hour, and we'll part company.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
That I'm concerned that they do all they can to achieve on their own, after they have finished a tutoring session with me. Also, that I'm worth every penny I get paid to tutor.
