Introduction

I am a retired university professor; I have a Ph.D. in measurement and evaluation (the degree for those who make the SAT/ACT/ASVAB etc.) and a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology (so I also help students with memory tricks, time management, and to overcome test anxiety). I make learning fun. I have a number of tricks and tips that help students learn faster while at the same time making them smile. I think of ways that the student will eventually use the information in real life too. This way, their brain will retain what they learn. I love seeing the light bulb go on over someone's head. They have just had an "ah-hah" moment and that gives me a charge.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

$60 an hour. There is no need to book more than one session at a time. No commitments are needed concerning time frame - I am flexible to work within the timeframe of the client.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

You are welcome to book a time with me to have a consultation or go straight to the calendar to either book a time to come to me or to a mutually convenient place and I also have a wonderful program which will enable me to work with you online. It enables me to see you, you to see me, and for me to write on my screen and you see the answers appear on your screen. I can also see the things that appear on your screen when you want me to see it. I can record the entire session so that you can go back and watch it again for the things that you missed first time.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am a retired university professor (University of South Florida, University of Florida, Keiser University, St. Leo University, and University of Tampa); I have a Ph.D. in measurement and evaluation (the degree for those who make the SAT/ACT/ASVAB etc.) and a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology (so I also help students with memory tricks, time management, and overcoming test anxiety).

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have been helping students all my life. I have pictures of me at age 17 working with other students to help them achieve their goals in many ways. I have spent the time since those early years finding and working in the field of teaching and tutoring because, to me, it is not really work but a joy. It is a terrific challenge to help students overcome problems they face and it gives me purpose.

Every type of age (from 7-year-olds to 65 year-olds), all types of needs (Students in Math, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Precalculus, Trigonometry Calculus, Statistics, and writing essays APA style, writing dissertations, editing essays, preparing for SAT/ACT/GRE/GMAT/TEAS/TOEFL/ and many more)

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I have been working with a student who, when I met her, was unable to write a simple essay and knew nothing about statistics. We are currently working on her dissertation and soon she will have a PhD in forensic psychology. I am very proud of her and have found working with her to be very fulfilling.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Anyone looking for a person to help them should be sure that the person matches their personality. They should be someone you feel comfortable working with because you need to feel that you want to continue on after every session.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

How do you make your tutoring personal to the student? I go about personalizing my tutoring directly to the student's needs in a number of ways. First, I have the student take a test (I would email that to you) and from that I can assess where the strengths and weaknesses of the student lie. Second, I have the student begin to create a personal "Cheat Sheet" that he/she would memorize - this sheet contains formulas, images, phrases, and tricks that help the student to solve problems and remember processes. Third, I sit with the student (usually online but not always) and go over each problem and I ask him/her to tell me what he/she learned and add it to the Cheat Sheet - I then send a worksheet of the same type of problem for practice. I use a program called join.me instead of more generic programs (like Skype) because I can write on the screen and it appears on the students screen and this is all recorded so it can be repeated anytime.
