Introduction

I have a very successful background as a secondary mathematics teacher, lead math teacher, curriculum writer and mathematics consultant. My experience includes instruction in Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, PreCalculus, Math Models, and AQR. I enjoy working with both struggling students as well as PreAP and Gifted students who need an extra challenge. I have recently been blessed to work with students in a university model setting and have helped many become successful even with very few instructional hours at school. I enjoy making math make sense and seeing students excited when they finally understand a concept. For the advanced student, I enjoy incorporating creative thinking, extensions and cross-curricular connections. I enjoy working with students in private, public and home school and offer everything from homework help, test preparation, creating a learning plan and providing support or acting as a math teacher of record.

Q&A

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
First, I would like to determine their immediate need. Is the student needing to fill in gaps in order to understand new material? Would it be best to work on homework, review notes, or prepare for an upcoming test? Parental input is helpful as well, but I really need to hear from the student what they hope to gather from our sessions.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
B.S. in Mathematics, M.S. in Secondary Education with an emphasis in mathematics, Texas Teacher Certification in Math for grades 8-12 10 years as a successful high school teacher building strong relationships with students along with 7 years of private tutoring. I have helped homeschool students with their math by creating a scope and sequence for their school year and have also taught/tutored them weekly as needed. I most recently worked with students at a local university model school who struggled with the limited instructional time at school.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I had a great math teacher my junior and senior years of high school who made math interesting and practical. I began tutoring students in high school who were at risk of not graduating without a math credit. From there, I got my degree in mathematics and my teaching certification and continued inspiring high school students after I graduated Magna Cum Laude.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
middle school to college and GED, below level, on level, PreAP/Honors and Gifted and Talented, SAT prep, homeschool, public school, university model students
