Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Special offers: $20 Thank You credit for every successful referral. Please inquire about the details!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I ask for new students to send me information regarding their course and course materials (textbook, etc), copies of their graded work (quizzes and/or tests), and questions/topics/assignments we will be working on in our first session. Graded work helps me determine which areas to focus on when reviewing past concepts, and current assignments help me tailor our work to best support students as they learn in class.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a BA in applied mathematics from UC Berkeley, an MA in teaching K-12 mathematics, teaching credentials from California and Arizona, and National Board Certification. I have been a classroom teacher for 14 years, 13 of those teaching high school mathematics. I have taught in international, independent, private, and charter schools. I have developed curriculum that is problem-based, and I also have prepared students for the math portions of standardized exams. I have tutored university students pursuing degrees that have mathematics requirements.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

My journey as an educator has traversed international borders, spanning five years in South Korea, Taiwan, and France, in addition to a notable seven-year tenure at the renowned College Preparatory School, ranked number one in California and fifth in the nation. Serving as the chair of the math department there for two years showcased my leadership and commitment to educational excellence. Relocating to Phoenix, I continued my mission of fostering mathematical understanding at the Phoenix Country Day School. My deep comprehension of the learning process, coupled with a passion for empowering students to strengthen their mathematical thinking, sets me apart from the rest of the pack. With a profound dedication to nurturing young minds and a lifelong love for mathematics, I stand out as an exceptional virtual math tutor. With over 15 years of experience as a credentialed math teacher and tutor, I’ve honed my craft and developed a unique approach to helping students achieve their mathematical goals. Armed with a BA in Math from UC Berkeley, an MA in Teaching Math, and the prestigious National Board Certification, I possess a robust educational foundation that underpins my expertise. In the virtual realm, I harnesses the power of technology to create an engaging and effective learning environment. Leveraging an iPad Pro and Zoom, I enable students to witness my teachings unfold in real time. By recording sessions, students can revisit and reinforce their learning at their own pace—a testament to my commitment to student success. With an unwavering commitment to my students' growth, I epitomize the essence of a dedicated educator. The love for math that fuels my journey is contagious, making each tutoring session an inspiring exploration tailored to the needs of my students. What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
I would advise to look for a tutor who has experience teaching math in the classroom. It's important for the tutor to understand the learning process as well as how to tailor their lessons to be relevant to how the material is encountered in the classroom. It's important for students to be able to demonstrate their understanding of the material in the way that has been learned in class. And, it's important for the student to be able to engage in the classroom activities and discussions concerning the topics.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
