Introduction

I have been tutoring for the past 10 years, and I hold a dual degree in Mathematics and Physics from Columbia University and have now begun a Physics PhD in Theoretical physics. With my experience in tutoring, I have had great success personally (receiving a 36 on my own ACT ) and with my students. I have had a wide variety of students, from those struggling to remain at grade level, to those attempting to surpass their peers. I quite enjoy seeing a student's face light up as they understand a new concept, or finally get the underpinning of some mindless algorithm that they were taught in school, and grasp the core concept . I like to work with students to help them become independent learners, and have worked extensively via video chat.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I tend to offer a 50% discount on the first session in order to see if the student and I will mesh well in future sessions. My prices are negotiable and will depend on the distance that I must travel and the service requested.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have a degree in Physics and Mathematics from Columbia University with 10 years of tutoring experience. I have tutored in a variety of subjects and at a variety of grade levels. I also have experience as a teaching assistant for college courses at Columbia and ran a program called Splash (as well as taught at the same) for high school students to take advanced courses taught by undergraduates.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I started tutoring as a way of getting community service hours in middle school, and realized quickly that I had a skill in and a true passion for teaching. I then started taking on more clients and started getting offers for paid work, which helped me through college.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with a broad spectrum of students, from ages 5-75 and from struggling to reach grade level to those expecting to reach the International Mathematics olympiad.
