Introduction

With Level 2 training in Gottman Method Couples therapy — the #1 trusted name in couples counseling — and special training in sex therapy from the Northwest Institute on Intimacy, I help couples transform conflict to communication, sexual frustration to connection and pleasure, loneliness to friendship, teamwork, and love. I have years of experience setting people at ease to talk about difficult topics. My clients and I laugh together often even as we talk about challenging and intimate topics. I believe everyone deserves love, joy, peace, and pleasure and that all of us are capable of creating healthy change in our lives no matter our age, identity, history, or context. Some of my specialties are working with people who struggle with sexuality—particularly those from conservative religious faith traditions. With a commitment to social justice and non-discrimination, I work with adults, couples, and groups 18 years and older.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
$150 / hour

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I begin with a short introductory video call so we can decide whether the client is a good fit for my services and whether I am a good fit for the client(s). If we all agree to move forward, I send intake paperwork before we meet for the first time.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have completed Gottman Couples Method Level 2 — the most trusted name in couples counseling — as well as the Top 5% Sex Therapy Training Program at the Northwest Institute on Intimacy. My clinical supervisor is certified by AASECT (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists). I also have a PhD in religion, sex, gender, and sexuality and have authored books on the intersection of these topics. I am an internationally known speaker and educator.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I have been working as an educator in sexuality and gender for many years. Students and others would come to me for counsel and I loved those one on one conversations so much that I decided to get training and shift my focus to therapeutic work.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Individuals and couples

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently taught a four week small group course Maximizing Women’s Sexual Wellness. Each woman reported positive change after 4 weeks and gratitude for the time we spent together.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Check out their professional website first to see if they are a good match for you and have the skills for the type of help you are looking for. You can find mine in my profile or by searching for “Megan DeFranza.”

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
I work with individuals and couples who are motivated to make changes in their lives, thought-patterns, and behaviors in order to bring about the kind of life and love relationships they long for.
