Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I usually charge by the project. I occasionally price on square footage. I never work by the hour as I have found it turns out unfair for both parties when quality is the objective.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I try not to overcomplicate things. I always request a site visit initially as it allows me to examine everything , as well as meeting some great people and encouraging questions!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I am currently certified for use on quite a few pro tile product installations. I trained under a high end tile contractor initially for 5 years , then off on my own, working for builders, architects, and residents throughout NY and CT.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I was a horticulturist in the Northeast. Years ago I grew tired of the short season and the uncertainty of winter income. I was mentored by a top tile contractor and learned the trade, often governed by architects, working in all scopes of the trade until present.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
A wide range of clients, residential as well as commercial/industrial . I have had the good fortune of being in a tile family, where we would often team up on large projects, learning along the way.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently worked on a large scope multifaceted job on Pensacola Beach. It challenged my application and layout skills, and the end result was amazing.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Do your homework. Talk to more than one contractor. Select based on who you feel comfortable with , in all areas. Tile is almost always a significant investment towards real estate. A mediocre job can break a sale down the road, or worse, fail when its too late. Attention to preparation is very important, be sure a contractor examines site thoroughly and explains what the procedure is in plain language.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
What is my budget? What level of craftsmanship is desired? Do I know exactly what I want or do I need professional guidance? Do I desire a contractor with experience and references?
