Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
We price each job by several factors. Tile size and square footage is a good starting point, and then we also take into consideration the grout depth, grout width, integrity of the tile and grout, general wear and tear and condition of the surfaces. Due to all of these factors we prefer to do all of our quoting on site for new customers.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We prefer to meet with each and every customer on site at their home/business to review the scope of the work. We will take measurements, inspect the areas needing service and provide a detailed quote for all services while we are in the home. Most in home visits take between 30-45 minutes to create a detailed quote for the customer and review it with them. We review each quote to ensure customers are getting exactly what they want, nothing more and nothing less.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
As the owner of Sir Grout Chicago I was trained by the franchise at our training facility in south east florida. I also have certifications from training facilities in grout and tile cleaning, color sealing, stone polishing and restoration and most recently thin tile installation.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
This was a summer job which I got into in 2004 while in college at University of Illinois. I went home to Connecticut in the summer and worked for the original Sir Grout in Fairfield County. I loved the results and wanted to own my own business so I saved money and started the Chicago franchise in 2007

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
We have worked with all types of customers from residential to hotels, to schools, to office buildings, property managers, plumbers, GS's, or interior designers, and made other trades. We prefer to establish long term relationships where we are the go to guy for any grout, stone, and tile needs going forward.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We just completed 280 guest rooms at the Marriot Renaissance O'Hare. It was part of a full remodel for the hotel and it was quite a transformation. The rooms look great due to many trades work and they will look that way for years to come. We also just started a restoration project for University Illinois Chicago. This will be a multiple phase/ multiple month project but we can already see great results in what has been accomplished so far.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Do your research and make sure you are comfortable with the company you are working with. We have seen many small companies come and go from the industry leaving their past customers without any warranties. Make sure you find a provider with the latest material and processes along with warranties and the companies to stand behind them. There are a loft of handy men or trades men who have not adopted the most recent advancements in epoxy sealants, or epoxy grouts and they offer short term solutions. Although the results may look great, they will not last as long as the longer lasting epoxy materials.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Do you need a long term solution or a quick fix? Do you want to work with a company who will be around when you need service again or want to use your warranty. Do you like your existing materials or would you prefer something different? What do you love about your currently grout, caulking, tile, or stone, and what do you hate about it. How would you make it better if you could?
