Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
All of our estimates are free. For flooring, our pricing is based on the square footage of the project- between $3.50 per square foot through $6.00 per square foot, depending on the amount of work needed to remove old flooring or subfloor’s . for bathrooms we usually charge $12,800.00 to $13,800.00

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
First, I meet the customer at their home or business to go over and define the scope of work. It is from there that I can hone and fine-tune the scope of work. From there I send the customer the quotation, which does contain a very detailed scope of work of what I am going to do. if the customer is in agreement, then draft up a contract and send it to the customer. The contract contains the start date and the estimated completion date.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

North American Wood Council

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
The first flooring project that I did was in 1986, when I had just gotten married and bought my first house. I refinished all of the old flooring as well as the ceramic tiling. I really liked doing that work and even to this day I thoroughly enjoy Flooring.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Our range of customers include residential homeowners, businesses, real estate, investors and flippers, banks and finance companies, and insurance companies

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
We refinished and restored oak flooring that were more than 150 years old. This was an incredible challenge in that the floors were blackened with machine oil.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Make sure that everything that you might require is in the form of a written contract. This will stop unpleasant change orders from popping up. Believe it or not, this is incredibly prevalent when doing kitchens and bathrooms. Are you replacing a subfloor? Who is responsible for the fixtures? What are the allowance amounts and are they realistic?

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
First and foremost, the customer should ask the contractor whether there are licensed or insured. The second thing that a customer should ask is when the start date would be, and how long the project would take to complete. The third and most important thing in my mind is whether or not the contractor will be there every day to work on the project and how many men will be there. Also, if it’s a major kitchen renovation, then three or four guys are more than appropriate for the project.
