Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Most quotes are firm. No extras. Don't you hate when contractors add on money for seemingly no reason? We do, too. The only time we charge more than our written quote is if you ask us to do more work. Even then, we'll let you know what the total is before the work, so you can decide if you'd like to proceed or not.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Many jobs can be quoted with a few photos of the surface you'd like to have worked on. A brief phone conversation is usually a good idea, to make sure we're on the same page.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Stone restoration classes run by Maurizio Bertoli of MB Stone, world famous marble restorer. Tile installation class at the Ceramic Tile Education Foundation facility in South Carolina. Certified in Stone, Masonry and Tile by the IICRC, Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification. Certified Document Technologist, a designation by the Construction Specifications Instititute.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
We ran a commercial maintenance company for years and started focusing on tile and marble work about 15 years ago, both installation and restoration.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
About half our clients are residential customers who want to upgrade or maintain their tile or stone floors or countertops. The other half is commercial property managers and general contractors who want us to work on new construction or renovation/maintenance of existing surfaces in office buildings, hotels, retail stores or restaurants.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
It's often very difficult for us to come up with pricing unless we can have a brief conversation with the property owner. This type of service can be customized to what you want, not a 'one size fits all' situation. So we'd recommend spending a few minutes texting or on the phone to clarify what you want and what's important to you. It's also frequently very useful to send a few photos of the area you want serviced so we can see the layout and size for pricing correctly. Checking reviews and references is important as well as before and after photos of similar jobs the contractor may be able to provide.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
It's a good idea to talk to a few contractors before the work. We recommend getting references, reviews and possibly job photos of similar completed jobs.
