Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
In this current market the only guarantee in pricing is labor for a project. Every project is different and materials costs and budgets for those materials can change with in weeks. Lock in your pricing early and preorder materials when ever possible.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I like to meet with customers and discuss their project in detail. Noting their wish lists and expectations, while also pointing out any limitations that may arise in the project. Next would be the planning and design period, followed by the selection process. Finally picking a start date for the project.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Over 30 years of custom carpentry experience and hands on experience. Beats any vocational training money can buy.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I grew up around custom carpenters in cabinet shops and job sites. You could say I have had my hands dirty from the age of 10.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
My clients come from every walk of life. I have worked with multi million dollar homes and commercial properties and your average homeowner. Everyone is always treated with the same respect and trade professionalism. My company has been based on word of mouth advertising for over a decade, and most of my clients are repeat customers or friends of past clients. Integrity, trust and communication are everything in this business.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
The most memorable project from last year would have to be working in nags head NC. Since I stay busy year round a rarely get a vacation from work. Last year however, I had the chance to combine my passion for construction and the OBX. Working while overlooking the Atlantic wasn’t as much work as it was a vacation.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Cheap labor isn’t skilled and skilled labor isn’t cheap. I know that sounds harsh, but unfortunately it’s the truth. If it sounds to good to be true it probably is!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Ask about prior experience and references. Pictures of past projects can be especially helpful in choosing a professional, it shows their abilities and limitations first hand. Also trust your gut instincts, trust and integrity in my business is everything! If you feel uncomfortable it’s time to move on.
