Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
I charge either hourly or by the project. Typically on hourly job I charge $100 for first hour and $75/hour there after. I do estimate hours prior before doing the work so you have a total cost in advance.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I always like to visit with the customer when possible and look at the work they would like done. This also gives them an opportunity to meet and get to know me. Once we determine scope of work I will give them a quote and schedule the work.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have all of the OSHA training and safety classes and credentials. The rest of my education and background has come in the form of on the job training through the years.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I always enjoyed building and working with my hands and I thought what better way to make a living then doing something I love.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have done both residential and commercial work as well as medical facilities. I have done contracting work for a celebrity clientele and has the opportunity to meet and work for some really famous people.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently had a client that had a lot of extra unused space in their master bedroom, but had very little closet space. We determined what she would like to give up space wise in the room and built her a wall to wall walk in closet, with bard doors on both ends, lighting and semi custom shelving. She recently reached out and said her and her husband feel like they are shopping when they walk through the closet getting dressed.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
No matter what the project small or large get some ideas of what you want so that you can give your handyman a starting point. I for one want my customer to be happy with the end result and like to involve them as much as possible.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
How long it will take and a budget. You should always communicate your expectations and budget to the person that will be doing your project. Sometimes knowing a persons budget can help us value engineer the project for the client, giving them good results at a lesser cost.
