What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I work alone most of the time so I can charge a lower price. I send quotes based on what is presented to me. I will have to charge a $3.00 dispoal fee per tire. Some jobs will include a landfill fee, which varies, if it can't be recycled. Some stuff is recyclable, such as, electronics and any kind of metal products. If I dont have to charge a landfill fee, I won't! I will donate stuff to goodwill if it is in decent condition and save you the landfill fee. If I think a job requires a landfill fee, I will include that in my quote. I will not charge an astronomical price based on how much space it takes up in my truck. I usually charge by travel and labor I think will be involved, it doesn't matter about the size of the load. Unless it is 2 or more pickup truck loads then I will have to charge per load.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I try to be fair and upfront with quotes. I want to earn your business by giving the lowest quotes that I can. I believe in charging a fair and honest price. I do my best to make a good impression. I believe in helping people, so I will ask questions to ensure you are satisfied.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
There isnt really any special education to know just common sense, good work ethic, and being prepared. Some stuff I've learned along the way, such as how to dispose of certain items, along with some rules and regulations about waste disposal. Knowing some DOT regulations certainly won't hurt either. Some things require an extra fee because the special handling Of certain items. Certain landfills are strict on what they take and some charge high fees for tires, tv's, mattresses, etc.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I came across Thumbtack one night while checking emails. I thought it would be perfect since I had a pick up truck. I wanted to put my truck to use. I already had some supplies and tools to use, so I thought it was a good idea. Now 7+ years later, I have a bigger, more up to date pickup truck and a trailer. I also have over 500 hauls, moves and deliveries under my belt from Thumbtack, family, friends repeat customers, and referrals.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have done residential and commercial. I have hauled yard waste, construction debris (old lumber, sheet rock, piping, counter tops, cabinetry), wood, small to commercial grade appliances (microwaves, washer and dryers, water heaters, small to commercial grade refrigerators and freezers), small furniture ( nightstands, table and chairs, beds, single piece large furniture), scrap metal, mattresses, old tools and equipment, and miscellaneous stuff left from old tenants. I can do property cleanups and cleanouts. I have worked with all sorts of people and I also work with non-profit agencies to handle new furniture deliveries and property cleanup.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I am not particularly fond of any project. I just try to help as many people as possible and do the best job I can. I have met some nice and interesting people in my service here on Thumbtack.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Support small business please. Look for the best qualified person. Experience is always a plus. Being prepared definitely helps.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
They should look for the best person for the job. I strive to be fair and honest with people. I do quality work for a fair price. I request everyone look at my reviews and profile. I don't like to quote a job if I don't think I can handle it. I am Georgia born and raised, I'm knowledgeable with most areas in the northern half of the state.
