Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My pricing is based on the need of the customer. During the consultation, we discuss their budget and the services/products that can be obtained. I am a military veteran so I do offer a 10% discount for current and retired military.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
A consultation is set up to discuss the details of the client's needs and budget. During that time we will finalize all plans and a contract/invoice will be sent shortly after.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I've always taken pictures to capture moments throughout my life, but I've been doing it professionally since 2016. That being said, my education/training in this field has come from experience.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
Born in Baltimore, my father always took pictures. He wasn’t a professional, but I’m still able to look back at the memories that were captured. After graduating in Norfolk, VA, I remember looking through a photo album that I had put together as the years went by. From baby pictures to high school graduation, I loved reflecting on my journey. Toward the end of my retirement from the U.S. Air Force, I decided to take more of a serious approach to photography. Throughout my career I was known for having a camera, documenting various moments with family and friends. It was always fun looking at the pictures or video after all the fun, it made for even more laughter! My wife and two kids were my first test models, they enjoyed the impromptu photo sessions…or at least they were good actors.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have families that I work with, generally they start off as business clients and end up scheduling personal sessions. I've worked with business owners looking for solutions to assist their brand. I've worked with creatives to help bring their vision to life. So as you can see my clientele spans from a family cementing their legacy with portraits to a CEO wanting to cement their business legacy with corporate headshots.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently had a chance to work with a jewelry designer on her brand. The whole team put their focus into ensuring the session went great. The set design was perfect, the model/pose coach ensured the model was presented well while the jewelry designer tweaked the look of her products and I locked in the remaining aspects of the images. I really enjoy working with the team on branding shoots. It's pretty common for branding shoots, but my portrait customers have also enjoyed booking the entire team for their family or single person sessions. They can have a professional make-up artist, model coach, set designer(if needed), creative director, stylist, videographer and of course a photographer all on set for their session to give them a celebrity experience. We like to allow 2-3 hours for these types of sessions.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
The biggest thing I see customers have issues with is having a proper budget for the service they are looking into.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
The main question I would say to think through is, what is your budget for your project. In my case, I try to find that out early in the process. My reasoning is I want to give the client an idea of what they can expect. I want to give them the best experience available.
