Introduction

TRANSCEND BOUUNDARIES We tell human stories to unite people across physical and cultural boundaries. Mwendo is an award-winning, full-service cinematic film production agency based out of Washington, D.C. We use film to tell human stories that unite people across physical and cultural boundaries around the world. Our work includes narrative films, documentaries, films for streaming services, commercial work, and projects for non-profits. ABOUT OUR FOUNDER: Mwita Chacha is a filmmaker passionate about sharing the beauty, struggles, and everyday life of often-overlooked cultures. Drawing inspiration from his diverse background and travels, he uses a raw docu-style approach to create authentic commercials and films. His work has helped raise millions of dollars for empowerment programs around the globe, brought awareness to the impact of climate change on Native Alaskans, highlighted the tragedy of the Holocaust and its denial, and inspired people to create change through visionary causes. His projects have been featured on Max, Discovery +. CNN, VOX, PBS, and Vimeo Staff picks. He loves sci-fi, Audible, afro beats, and anything mango-flavored.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I (Mwita) grew up inspired by my father’s journey, from a rural village in Tanzania to becoming an author and humanitarian leader. Seeing the impact of his work, I realized that storytelling has the power to change lives. Before college, I volunteered at City of Hope in Tanzania, where I saw firsthand how a single video could inspire action and mobilize support. That experience shaped my belief that film is one of the most powerful tools for creating empathy and driving change. I founded Mwendo (which means “to put in motion” in Swahili) to do exactly that—tell human stories that transcend physical and cultural boundaries. Over the years, our work has helped raise millions for humanitarian causes, been featured on CNN, PBS, Discovery+, and more, and, most importantly, made a difference in the lives of real people. Today, Mwendo continues to focus on high-impact storytelling, helping brands, nonprofits, and organizations connect with audiences in a meaningful way. Let’s create something powerful together!

One of our most meaningful projects is the Black Justice Fellowship documentary with GOODProjects in Washington, D.C. This film follows three grassroots activists as they work to get their respective non-profits off the ground. Through the fellowship they received mentorship and a grant to help multiply their efforts. 🛠 Scope of Work: We captured the personal journeys, challenges, and impact of these change-makers, weaving their stories into a 15min documentary about the challenges of trying to make an impact. ⏳ Timeline: This project has spanned over a year, from development to production, with an anticipated 2025 release at festivals and distribution platforms. 🎯 Impact: The film is designed to inspire young people in underserved communities, raise awareness about the Black Justice Fellowship, and serve as a fundraising tool to ensure its continued success. Thanks to the efforts of Darius Baxter, Cherrelle Swain, and many partners, the Fellowship has already been funded for another year! This documentary embodies what we do at Mwendo—telling human stories that transcend boundaries and create lasting change.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Finding the right filmmaker is about more than just a camera and a budget—it’s about finding a creative partner who understands your vision and knows how to bring it to life. Here’s our advice for hiring the best provider in this space: 1. Look Beyond Price—Focus on Value A well-crafted film is an investment. Instead of focusing on the lowest bid, look at the impact and long-term value a high-quality film can provide. 2. Seek Storytelling Expertise, Not Just Technical Skills Cinematography is important, but storytelling is what moves people. Find a filmmaker who knows how to craft compelling narratives that connect with your audience emotionally. 3. Review Past Work & Case Studies Watch their portfolio and ask: Do these films resonate? Have they worked on projects with similar impact or goals? A great provider will have experience translating complex ideas into engaging, human-centered stories. 4. Understand Their Process The best providers have a clear, structured process—from concept development to final delivery. This ensures efficiency, transparency, and a smooth experience for you. 5. Prioritize Chemistry & Collaboration Filmmaking is a partnership. Choose a team that listens, asks the right questions, and is genuinely invested in your mission and success. At Mwendo, we specialize in cinematic, impact-driven storytelling for brands, nonprofits, and mission-driven organizations. If you’re looking for a partner who will help bring your vision to life in a powerful and meaningful way, let’s connect!
