Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Just talk to me. Never assume my prices are etched in stone. I may not be able to perform a certain scope of work for a lower price, if I am busy. But if there is a gap, I'd rather fill it with work. Especially if it is a project that may enhance my portfolio, or provide a challenge!

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
Communication, Communication, Communication! Then, Flexibility, Flexibility, Flexibility! Although that looks simple, communication is usually the biggest hurdle when problems or changes come up. I believe in approaching both tenents with honesty and integrity.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
Civil Engineering Degree, Clemson. Not really the career path that I ended up on! I've had decades of being mentored by top photographers and cinematographers, but I usually learn the most from young, creative artists that help keep the pasioion to create alive! UAV Drone Pilot, working on Coastguard Captain's license.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I am from SC and earned an engineering degree from Clemson. I started my creative career in New York City as a cinematographer and filmmaker, producing MTV music videos. Then TV commercials, then broadcast, feature support and corporate. I owned a production studio in SoHo which also catered to celebrity photography, still life, fashion, and advertising. My wife of 38 years was a top model and actress with Wilhelmima. Through her, I was able to learn from the best in the business!

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Individuals, companies big and small, manufacturers, broadcast, magazines, web & social media content providors, and more. I have been blessed to have contracted with over a dozen Fortume 500 companies througout my career.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I just shot another series for Sea Pro Boats on Lake Murray. I grew up on that lake, and it was fantastic going back and seeing how much it's changed, but also, in many ways, how much it has stayed the same. It's a beautiful lake and we got some gorgeous shots of two new boats. I will upload some of them as soon as I'm finished editing.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Flexibility is important. Make sure your provider isn't stubborn creatively, and is willing to work with you to get exactly what you want. Also, ask them for suggestions, to see if they are really passionate about giving you exceptional service!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
To me, the best way to determine what you want is to look at other photographs, and see if that's the style and feeling that you want to achieve. Also, think about some logistics. Lighting, especially outside, is very dependent on weather and the time of day. I'm partial to the "golden hour" which is sunset. The light is beautiful and everything just looks magical.
