Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
Our ability to include pricing information is very limited on Thumbtack. Real estate and AirBNB listings start at $500. Architectural and interior design shoots typically begin at $1500 plus a per-image fee, but depends on the project. Some projects just need a couple of photos in which case we would work on a per-image rate. Cost-sharing across multiple parties is a common practice.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
I treat every customer the same, however I do require payments in advance for first time clients.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have been working professionally in video since 1998 and photography since 2005.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
My wife and I were searching for a home in 2011 and all of the photos on the MLS were just not attracting us to any homes, yet the ones we visited looked better in person than they did in the pictures. I asked our Realtor if he would consider using professional photography for his listings and have been photographing real estate and architecture ever since.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
Realtors, architects, builders, interior designers, business owners, media agencies.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I recently completed a large, multi-day commercial architecture project via Thumbtack. Client requested 40+ photos plus timelapse and I included video. We photographed this project over the course of 5 days to accomodate office hours as well as lighting conditions.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
You are going to get what you pay for. The cheapest option is not always the best option. If you need an expert who isn't going to nickel and dime you and will take the time and effort required to complete the project so that it is done right, it is an investment,.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Will any other parties be interested in using the photos? Experienced photographers will have a cost-sharing policy that will save you money. Inquire about this.
