Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
My standard pricing is anywhere from $35-75 an hour depending on the scope and duration of the entire project.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
The typical process working with a new customer involves several meetings to understand the overall goal and soundscape that the customer is trying to achieve. Then I break down the recording/production process into several steps for them, with quality checks along the way (rough mixes, pre-production notes, etc.) to make sure that the customer is happy with the sessions or progress. I always allow their voice to be heard and never try to always have them go with my ideas or opinions.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have an Electrical Engineering Degree, and am also Six Sigma certified. This education has allowed me to be very methodical and solve problems quickly, which arise in studio environments quite often. It has also allowed me to manage time and client budgets as well.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

unfold fold
I began playing in bands when I was barely a teenager. Soon after, I started recording my bands, as well as friend's bands in my school. I studied all the information I could get my hands on at the time. I took classes in high school and college on recording, and haven't stopped since.

What types of customers have you worked with?

unfold fold
I have worked with record labels, advertising agencies, tv stations, bands, musicals, radio stations, acapella groups, college's, acoustic duo's, orchestra's, the list goes on....

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

unfold fold
I'm very fond of a indie band that I produced a few months ago. The band came in to the studio with nothing but raw, unpolished demo ideas. I was able to quickly arrange specific bass, guitar, and vocal harmony parts, completely changing the attitude and feel of the songs to a polished, catchy, radio ready EP within a month. The band has already seen instant success with much more frequent shows/gigs, as well as radio and television appearances.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
PLEASE don't always go by the cheapest rate you can find. I can assure you that you will not get your money's worth and you will have to spend more for somebody else to re-record, or mix, or master, or edit. Ask for referrals, read testimonials, and LISTEN to work that the potential provider has worked on for past clients in a similar genre.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Customers should evaluate their overall time and budget constraints for their project. Creating music is a process that needs time, money, and intensive organization.
