Introduction

Hello, friend! My name is Maria, and along with my husband, Donny, we are the husband and wife foundation of Vimana Photography & Cinema. We have over a decade in business, global and nationwide clientele, and focus on fun, authentic, and timeless documentation of the important moments that is your life. We specialize in wedding photography and videography, but also capture couples, families, and maternity. We use pro-level Canon cameras and lenses, and edit to enhance your natural beauty and remove distractions, while presenting a beautifully curated final gallery. Our style could be described as timeless, true to life, and with a nod to fine art. Our ideal clientele has an appreciation for art and the generational value of documenting their milestones through fine photography. When we aren’t behind the camera, I enjoy interior design, gardening, our menagerie of pets, and travel. Donny is an avid golfer and loves riding his Harley and spending time near the ocean. Ask us about capturing your destination wedding! Please note that we have over 31 five-star reviews on our west coast account—where we spent nearly 20 years. Please ask and I can direct you where to view those.

Q&A

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

unfold fold
In an era of hobbyists and constantly evolving (and therefore affordable) camera technology, nearly anyone can pick up a camera and call themselves a photographer, and so clients have often feel overwhelmed when searching for their wedding photographer. Photographers come in all price points, from just $500 for all day coverage to $5,000 and up. Many times the old adage “ you get what you pay for” holds true in this area. We aren’t going to be the cheapest, or the most expensive, but we will be professional, prepared, and experienced.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

unfold fold
We like to meet in person to see if we would be a good fit for you. On your wedding day, no other vendor will spend so much time by your side, helping, coaching, and encouraging you as you tie the knot to your soulmate. If you decide to book with us, we require a signed agreement and a retainer to secure your date on our calendar. Following that, I mail out our 78-page Bridal Guide to help you will planning your timeline around maximizing photography.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

unfold fold
I have taken college classes in photography and fashion photography, as well as many online and in person workshops and continuing education. As professionals, we believe one should never stop learning and improving.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

unfold fold
Brides, when interviewing a potential photographer/videographer for your wedding, keep in mind that there are no do-overs! Make sure that not only you feel completely comfortable and at ease with them, because if you are uncomfortable, it will show in your photos. Ask yourself, could you see yourself being friends with them? Do they “get” you? Ask them what their backup protocol is for your images and footage, and if they have ever lost media. Here at Vimana Photography, I dual record to two separate flash cards simultaneously, meaning I am automatically recording a backup as I shoot. Once I get home, I create a third backup on external drive, and then I NEVER erase my camera cards until the wedding is edited and delivered. Make sure that your photographer is insured! Most venues require this, but you would be surprised at how many hobbyist photographers are NOT insured. Yes, it costs to carry insurance, but this is one of the differences between hiring a professional and a part time hobbyist, which brings me to the final consideration: ask your potential photographer if this is their full time career, or do they have a day job? We’ve heard many sad stories from brides of their photographer canceling on them last minute because they couldn’t get time off of work. This is our full time career and once we receive a signed contract and retainer, you are our 100% focus for that date. And, yes, we are fully insured for both liability and errors and omissions.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

unfold fold
Please see above. Many bridal blogs often mention asking if your photographer has photographed at your venue before—this isn’t as important as some think. In fact, sometimes someone with fresh eyes can find inspiration to create amazing images...instead of just creating the same old shots/poses. Creativity stems from originality!
