What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

It's not complicated. $70.00 per hour, $60.00 for 45 minutes, $40.00 per half hour. Most students study by the month. Participation in a recital or showcase (December, May, July) costs $40.00

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Lesson 1: Voice students: Get to know the student as a person, learn about goals of the student, stretch physically, teach warm ups, take the vocal range of the student, teach breathing, decide on a schedule of times convenient for the student. Lesson 2. Time choices: $40 for 30 minutes,$ 50 for 45 minutes,$ 65 for 60 minutes. Cash, cheques, Venmo , Paypal.

Musical Theater 1 and 2, Citrus College , California . Commercial Singing 1, 2, 3 from Shenandoah University in Virginia . ( Jazz , Commercial , Musical Theater ). Doctorate in Classical Vocal Performance, State University of New York at Stony Brook, full scholarship Three year full graduate scholarship for Vocal Performance to Indiana University . Pedagogy Course work with New York Singing Teachers Association. 30 years of college and private school teaching. Full scholarships to Indiana University and State University of New York.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I’m from Michigan and started teaching music to elementary voice and piano students while attending Hope College at age 18 . I also played the piano for voice lessons at the college . Then I taught voice and piano at the Crystal Cathedral Academy near Los Angeles at age 21 . I began teaching college voice students at the State University of New York at age 24 . I started studying piano in 2nd grade and sang my first public solo at age 8. I also play the French Horn, toured Europe with a handbell choir, play the autoharp, and work as a professional pianist. I come from a family of teachers. I am passionate about music. I moved to the Los Angeles area at 21 and was working professionally as a singer in New York City by 24. Singing and motivating others to sing has always been my number one passion. I have performed nationwide and in Europe.

What types of customers have you worked with?

PROFESSIONAL We participate in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Competitions as well as Palm Beach Music Teachers Association events. Some of my adult students are focused on performing professionally . We have students at Tanglewood, Bak, Dreyfoos, State Concerto Winners, and National Classical Singer Winners. I have two winners with New York Lyric Opera, and my college students have won scholarships to New York University, Eastman School of Music, Indiana University, and Cincinnati Conservatory. They perform regionally at Empire Theater in Fort Lauderdale, for Lake Worth Playhouse, for Maplewood Playhouse, and for Standing Ovation Theater in Lake Worth. HIGH SCHOOL, MIDDLE SCHOOL, ELEMENTARY We are very involved in the Palm Beach Music Teachers Association Activities. We also teach both Musical Theater and Classical Styles. Some of these students study for fun and others are focused on winning auditions for the Bak and Dreyfoos Schools, New World School of the Arts, and Young Singers of the Palm Beaches. Many have a goal of winning college scholarships. I make sure that students have a good background in piano skills and theory. ADULT HOBBYIST Some of my adults have had call backs for America's Got Talent and have songs for sale on Itunes and You Tube. Some sing just for fun at clubs and with Kareoke. Some love the Great American Song Book. Some students make CDs and perform with Actors Models, and Talent in Christ.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

Our great joy is our three yearly recital showcases and celebrating with a reception afterwards . We perform at Gardens Church in Palm Beach Gardens where I am the Director of Music . We also have a new baby grand piano , digital piano , and remote studies zoom set up station . I try to keep the atmosphere positive with a customer library that includes children's classics , and books on Positive Thinking, Diction, Breathing, Music History, and Broadway History. We also have a therapy cat, Macavity (Mickey) who is very gentle and friendly .

Make sure your teacher is highly qualified. Dr. Galer is past President and Vice President of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Intra Coastal and Gold Coast chapters . She has thirty years of teaching and performing experience , a doctorate in music, and is a professional singer and pianist. She also teaches the methods of the Royal Conservatory of Canada which result in an international certificate. She enters students in the National Federation of Music Clubs, Music Teachers National Association, Florida Vocal Association, and Palm Beach Music Teachers Association Events.
