I’ve been teaching and working with all ages for 10 years! Teaching music is about freedom. Everyone has a unique voice, and honing that in a healthy way, in a judgment-free zone, can lead to many amazing discoveries! What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My rates for traveling to the client are higher; to offset this and give more people the opportunity to work with me, I teach at Lyriq Music School three days a week. They take care of scheduling and admin so my rate can be a little lower. I am willing to work with clients to achieve long and consistent working relationships. I have deals if I go to one house for multiple students.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

First lesson is more of an assessment, we’ll warm up and I’ll get a feel for where your strengths are and where there might be some gaps or bridges we can build and we’ll chat about your goals and things you’re working toward and come up with a plan over the next few lessons of how to achieve those goals over time!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Bachelors in Music from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee. There I studied opera, contemporary music, art song, acting, dance, pop, music law, and production. I also studied flute with Sharon Sparrow, a Juilliard and Eastman school graduate and principle flautist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for over 10 years!

How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have always been a helper. I am the oldest of 3 and enjoyed helping them with their piano and other music studies. Later I directed some musicals and operas and thoroughly enjoy coaching and working in large and one-on-one teaching/directing situations!

What types of customers have you worked with?

Right now I have ages 4-35 and have worked with up to around age 60. All levels. Some with degrees in music learning a new skill, others just beginning, early 20s starting their music career at school, teens who are passionate about music! Really have worked with all ages over the course of my life.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

I recently scored and produced music for a film with the Boston Moving Arts company.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I would say strong communication and an overall good vibe are important in picking a teacher. Go with your gut!

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

I would address anything that’s on your mind that’s specific to your needs and then generally I would ask about what’s important to the teacher. For me it’s that I enable you to be free to express yourself with your instrument… whatever you need to get you there be it some more theory - some acting direction - vocal training - confidence work - piano skills etc. I can give you all the tools you need but ultimately it’s you who decides how to use them! :)
